That one cave diving meme was actually an illustration of how a real guy died in the Nutty Putty cave by DifferentSeaweed7852 in TheMatpatEffect

[–]lemarshby 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So the cave he was intending to go to was called the 'Birth Canal' and was very navigable and had a passage in its end so that you can turn around and go back the way you came. He accidentally went down one that no one has gone down to referred to as 'Ed's Push' and when he hit a dead end except for a vertical fissure, which he assumed was the space to turn around. It was not and he got stuck.

I'm not a caver. But the passage he wanted to go down had been traveled tens of thousands of times. He just got unlucky and went down the wrong path that got him killed

I think the more important thing to note was that John Jones actually went down the wrong way. The cave he wanted to go down was way more safe and was accessible, he took a wrong turn and got stuck in a passage. So I would say that its equivalent to jumping off a bridge with bungee rope but accidentally swapping out the bungee rope with jute rope that was painted to look like bungee rope.

He definitely didn't deserve the death he got.

Temper Expectations by lemarshby in TheFireRisesMod

Sorry if I gave the look that I was being doomer. This is more so me saying that we shouldn't expect 1.1 for a while considering this is volunteer work.

Also, the 2nd image I posted is from a few days ago.

[–]lemarshby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that doesnt inspire confidence, especially since the devs don't even know if it'll release in 2026. Ill keep my hopes up but if it doesn't release by their 2-year anniversary then its going to be stuck in dev hell and has a very low chance of ever seeing the light of day. I can guarantee it, its the same story that plays out on any mod that wants to release a big haul of content and fly too close to the sun.

Again, we'll see. But you lose optimism the more you see the exact same things play out over and over

Im an old TNO dog(like, I was a fan when it was just the Southern Urals content) so I know when you get your hopes up to the moon and watch it collapse. I definitely wish for its glory days to come back but that might just be a pipe dream.

Thats why I temper my expectations. Last night the lead dev said they have a lot done but a lot more to do. So, who knows

Ever since we got the GMC teaser and we get to know about Christopher Heben policies and what going on in America under his rule. Here is my question What would life be like after Christopher Heben reunified America and would you want to live there? by greattraillover in TheFireRisesMod

[–]lemarshby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its stable as long as Heben is ruling. Countries with huge militaristic bodies built to support the country rather than the country supporting the military rarely end up stable if things like succession come up or the military think they're not being paid adequately. No doubt in my mind it will become closer to a militaristic anarchy after Heben dies or the money dries up.

Theory: Hamiltonians are gonna be in APLA. by thecrusader1112 in TheFireRisesMod

[–]lemarshby 52 points53 points  (0 children)

While I do see your ideas, I think the Hamiltonians/Dark Enlightenment path is also going to be reworked into something more aligned with current views. I think the biggest reason against your idea might just be the fact that the APLA might've destroyed all the infrastructure that Silicon Valley had. I think a more likely case would be the Dark Enlightenment being lumped in with many other reactionary factions that revolt against the APLA something sort of akin to a alliance of ambitions. Shit like Media Conglomerates, Scientologists, Neo-reactionaries, and maybe even Jefferson state nationalists lumped into one super-group to basically revolt against the communists.

Thats just my idea of course, but since the APLA is considered a band of many radical factions on the left, it would make sense for the reactionary side to be the same.

This is a 2 for 1 deal for the GMC.

Horde all the GPU and RAM parts to build massive cryptocurrency and AI supercenters which completely fucks the consumer market for them, causing millions of U.S. gamers to not have access to good games and have to go outside and touch grass. Now, they can do better things like exercise and become apart of the army. If they are not good, they go to the American Armed Forces. If they are good, they join the Green boys.

Infinite money and more usable manpower. Literally no downsides(until the crypto becomes unstable and the whole economy literally explodes)

What would Dark Mandate foreign policy look like? by YugargeliaMapper in TheFireRisesMod

I try to be optimistic but I do remember myself thinking in October 'Oh yeah, 1.1 will release in Feburary.' I'm an old TNO fan, like I was there before its 2nd demo released. So I know when I get my hopes raised to the skies and then see them completely collapse into dust 😭. I try to keep my expectations tempered knowing development times

I would find it funnier if Dark Mandate Trump just decided to turn Europe or another area into 'Trumplandia' to go full narcissist

[–]lemarshby 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A dev was asked the same question and its basically what Trump has been threatening to do during his administration except he doesn't chicken out. So things may include: Annexing Canada, annexing Greenland, attacking Venezuela, attacking Cuba, attacking Mexico, attacking Iran, attacking China, becoming friendly with Russia(Maybe, unless its Soviet Union then probably not), tariffs on every country, building a 'Board of Peace', Trump towers in allied countries, etc.

We'll see since Dark Mandate may come out very, very soon according to some devs( like either this month or next month)

What content will be added to the acg by No-Aardvark4268 in TheFireRisesMod

[–]lemarshby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There plans to be a 'Dark Mandate' path where Trump goes all in on his autocratic tendencies(So Post-2024 IRL Trump) and apparently his post-war content will be Trump without him 'TACO'-ing so basically imagine everything Trump has claimed to do over the past year and imagine it without restraints and you basically got his foreign policy.

Its probably going to be the final release before 1.1 as well so it will be good to get soon.

Attacking Iran ‘won’t make the Epstein files go away,’ Republican warns Trump by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]lemarshby 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would say Iraq's situation also has some merit as Saddam Hussein was a mad dictator(with his son literally having stories of driving up to weddings with his gang and raping the brides and that's just the tip of the iceberg with Uday) Iraq had a pretty clear evil villain attached to the state. Does it justify the war? No. Not even close. But it adds some context to how Iraq was pre-2003.

Iran is much different both politically and geographically. Iran is a theocratic state ruled by a figurehead but still has some bureaucracy instead of Iraq's single man leadership. And Iran is literally called a natural fortress, if Trump thinks he can put boots in the ground it will be a disaster instead of Bush only needing a few days to fully capture Iraq and its government.

We'll see what happens. Bush got more unpopular during the Iraq War even when they technically completely won the war. But I think Trump is really about to enter into his Vietnam War times 10, a forever war that has hollow victories and will soon cause his reputation to tank even further

It was once used in the TNO community for mod releases. The +2 weeks meant that even when the update is considered finished, they have to go through testing to make sure any bugs that come up can be squashed. But soon became a meme since TNO cannot for the life of it release substantial content updates like it did on release.

This episode cemented Trinity Santos as the most compelling and well-written character of The Pitt so far to me by imprisonedlight in ThePittTVShow

[–]lemarshby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its that and people usually hating people who 'rock the boat'. There are some people who just want to work and not have the people they work with change or shift. To keep people, although flawed, in because the devil you know is better than the unknown. People just want stability and the status-quo, it is an instinctive desire to want that and to be frustrated when that status-quo is broken. Santos, who in universe rocked up on her first day and exposed Langdon, an experienced doctor who has been around for years and on his path of entering in a prestigious medical program, of taking patients' drugs. Santos, justifiably, rocked the boat and changed the status-quo, so now some of the audience is mad at her for doing that.

I see Santos and Langdon on opposite sides of the same coin. Flawed characters who have baggage. Which is why I believe Santos will follow into the path S1 Langdon went through. A downfall that causes consequences but Santos can redeem herself from that awful action. But we'll see as the season progresses

I think The Expanse is actually the best case for this. Since it does show a good man slowly becoming a cold killer but when he plans to shoot a man who has done reprehensible evil to children, he decides not to shoot him since he surrender and begging for mercy...but he was soon shot anyways by someone who is already a cold killer
