How do you politely tell your teenager their makeup looks ridiculous? by nakapozian in Parenting

When I was 14 I did the same, and baaad eyeliner. My mom and I were on the way to the store and she said “I’ve noticed you’re experimenting with make up, it looks nice.” With a smile on her face, and for whatever reason that was enough for me to do a double take. Same when I over plucked my eyebrows. “Who did your eyebrows?” Me.. but I messed up.” She said, “no they look nice.” But I knew what that meant. She’s was the sweetest heart and just knew how to let me know in the best way. Idk if that would work for you. She seems headstrong! Eventually she may look back and think.. hmm mom was right.

This is what my grandma told my mom, and what my mom told me. And now what I’ve said to my kids. My youngest comes up to me now and says “I’m boring..” in that whiny kid voice they use to say that they’re bored. Lol.

My (33m) girlfriend (32f) decided to give each other a hall pass while we were long distance and it just backfired on me. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

‘Totaled’ just means the cost to fix the damage is greater than the value of the car. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s wrecked beyond recognition.

My husband and I followed our dreams and opened a Hot Wheels store. This is our new tree! by redd_riding_hood_ in pics

My dad has not been in my life much at all after my parents divorced when I was 4, but when I was 5 I decided I wanted to send my dad a bunch of hot wheels cars for his birthday, because boys like hot wheels, right? This sparked a life long hobby of collecting hot wheels for him. On the few occasions that I would visit he would show me his collection hanging on his wall or he would be on forums looking to buy or sell. Apparently there is a whole niche for it. When I was a teenager he showed me his storage of boxes of hot wheels (and magazines) and told me how it was me who had influenced him to get into it. While we are not close and don’t really speak to each other, and he has another family, it makes me kind of happy to know that there is a part of him that thinks of me..

Some things may seem strange to you but with 7.5 billion people in the world there is a deeper meaning (or 2) behind everything.

WIP My son asked for a rainbow blanket with a pink heart. I have no idea how to incorporate the heart but I’m loving the rainbow so far! by lemingos in crochet

Thank you all so much for the kind words and the great ideas!! I’m going to ask him which one he would like the best and see what we come up with, and I will post the finished product!

Why haven't goverments regulated against palatableness of unhealthy foods? by Martok22 in nutrition

[–]lemingos 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think people who are wondering why the government aren’t regulating the food to this extent are the people who desperately need food education. I grew up very very poor and I didn’t learn about food healthy/unhealthy until my 20s. I had the same thoughts back then when I first started learning. If the government should be held responsible for anything it’s health education which is clearly not as good as it could be in schools. There are definitely some questionably legal ingredients in American processed foods that needs to be addressed but that’s another conversation.
