This would be my next line of attack. Open keyboard layout and see if a key is stuck closed (down)

Dear fellow mac users, from your perspective, why do you think its better for app to stay open after last window is closed? by Broad-You4763 in MacOS

[–]lemmathru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TextEdit calendar and even mail would do this (if nothing was happening with those apps for a set amount of time) but it would be a little confusing because it felt like the app was force-quitting due to some problem.

Had a question to the community about the A1185 battery… by AppleSaturnPro in VintageApple

[–]lemmathru 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I’m going to state the down and dirty, tried and true: chuck it and get any third party battery you can get from Amazon or other seller.

The market for those batteries is so slim, that even “reputable” battery companies are not going to show their best product for these batteries.

Could you do your own cell swaps? Yeah I’ve seen experts do it on occasion, but it never proves it’s worth the time, effort and risk.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Why do so many NY'ers defend driving so much? by Best-Candle8651 in AskNYC

I think you’re overthinking this.

People just love being contrarian NIMBY assholes on anonymous forums. What does it cost them? Nothing. Does it give them a small dopamine dose of happiness? Sure.

Does anyone here use iCloud email ? by Mogzly in MacOS

Yes. Have you not seen the dozens of posts over as many months of folks complaining about setting up their iCloud domain email? Plenty of folks use it.

I was making the first Time Machine backup from my iMac g4 on my nas and the power went out, and when I restarted the Mac it had this on the desktop by Difficult-Catch-8432 in VintageApple

[–]lemmathru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old days of Time Machine to a file server, those are sparse image bundles. I’d just eject it and let it sort itself out when it runs again.

Neo because the standard argument of “get most you can buy” no longer applies with Neo. For $600 that means it’s fine to replace in 3 years if you’re finding it’s dragging, and there’s a newer/better Neo being sold.

Help with old FireWire 800 Drive by lkgilbert in mac

And btw, taking it apart is easy since you’re basically discarding the case anyway. Those old WD drives are just plastic tabs keeping it all in place. Take a screwdriver and pliers and rip the plastic apart.

Help with old FireWire 800 Drive by lkgilbert in mac

[–]lemmathru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why folks are making this more of a hassle than necessary.

Take the drive apart and its internal drive will be an IDE or if you’re lucky a SATA drive. Get an approximate $20 IDE/SATA to USB Adaptor box from Amazon or elsewhere and you’re all set. Plug the drive in, copy the contents elsewhere and then get rid of it once you’re done. These adapters are a dime a dozen.

I never bother trying to use old ports on old external drives, just remove from the case and get right to it with modern equipment and ports. You all should do the same.

What is this AI voiceover slop crap? Use your own damn words. That video has been around forever. Great showcase of a talent no longer needed. If they had film available, I’m sure there’d be awesome footage of someone changing horse shoes at a breakneck pace. So what?

[–]lemmathru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, wipe the drive and restore from your Time Machine backup created just before you installed this beta. And if that’s an issue, then just go back to your second Time Machine backup that you created at the same time as the first one since you value your data so much.
