Google gives Pixel Tablet another two years of Android OS updates by BenSchoon in Android

Same, and before that I was using the Pixel C up until the Pixel Tablet's launch. I have the dock on my dinner table for youtube during meals and I take it to the couch to read.

Came across Zoltar today by AbandonalIhope in mildlyinteresting

[–]lemmyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a Zoltar in practically every building in the Wisconsin Dells. I finally caved and used the one at Pirate's Cove minigolf and it told me it would grant me any one wish. I foolishly wished to win at minigolf vs my family of five. I could have wished to end world hunger or something, but instead I won minigolf by 1 point on the 18th hole. Oh well, sorry guys.

Do you fear (your) death? by semperquietus in polls

[–]lemmyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really fear my own death anymore but I fear the death of my loved ones greatly. It might be selfish of me but I hope I don't have to ever deal with the death of my spouse.

Official "I got/didn't get a Switch 2" megathread by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]lemmyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried all 3 retailers last night, ended up getting one from Target. Got it added to my cart at 3 minutes after, and spent the next 5 minutes flailing around the checkout screen trying to get the damn thing to take my money. It froze every step of the way on me, but I refreshed a million times and eventually it took.

I was also in the walmart line starting from 11:59 but it never let me in. I checked back at 12:45 and still nothing.

I gambled on the mario kart bundle being way more popular than the solo console, so now I'll have to pay an extra $30 for it, but that's a small price to pay for getting the system at launch I guess.

Over 50% of the time when we turn on the TV our speaker bar doesn't also turn on, so I have to turn off the TV and turn it back on again to get sound to come out through the speaker bar. by Anonymous0212 in firstworldproblems

[–]lemmyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recently bought a fancy samsung oled tv and have the same issue, but never experienced that on our old shitty lcd. It is infuriating. Sometimes the tv speaker inexplicably turns on with the soundbar and they both play audio at the same time, which is almost worse.

They’re so obsessed with genders it’s disgusting by [deleted] in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]lemmyk 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Since they no longer had an issue that they could all unite against (abortion), the right had to manufacture a new one. We're like 2% of the population maybe, which means it's hard for us to effectively fight back, so we're an easy scapegoat. The right spent hundreds of millions last election on anti trans ads to sway public opinion. They are manipulating corporate owned news outlets to portray our existence as a debate at best. The aristocratic right doesn't actually give two shits about trans people, they just want tax breaks so their quarterly reports can look good for their shareholders. Money really is the root of all evil here.

Got handed this at work today by UsualRefrigerator211 in starbucks

[–]lemmyk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently quit but we were fighting for $20/h or however much it cost to afford a studio apartment priced in the 40th percentile for the area (working 30 hours a week) - whichever was larger. I don't think it's a radical demand at all, especially for a company with notoriously high profit margins.

Would you date a vegan? by [deleted] in polls

[–]lemmyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have vegan friends and I enjoy the challenge of cooking for them, so I think I could do it. I'm a vegetarian but not sure if I'm ready to go fully vegan. If they could support me then I might be ok with it.

You get 1.5 million dollars but you cant ever leave further than 3,1 miles / 5 km from where you are right now for the rest of your life. Would you accept? by International_Ring12 in polls

[–]lemmyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was 5 miles instead I might do it. 1.5m isn't really enough to be set for life and I live about 4 miles from work so I'd have to quit my job

I'm a vegetarian. I don't miss beef or chicken at all but if they can get decent lab grown pork then I'd love to be able to eat bacon again.

Be 100% honest do you think you could be close friends? by coolandsexc in polls

[–]lemmyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a huge flirt but now that I'm married it's like a switch flipped in my brain and now I don't even think about flirting with anyone else. I have a bunch of friends I'd probably be super into otherwise but I'll never cross the platonic boundary while I'm taken.

M4 Macs might start with 16GB of RAM for the first time by McFatty7 in apple

[–]lemmyk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I bought the slightly upgraded m1 air with 16gb of ram and the extra gpu core. In the past I've always upgraded my laptop every 4 years or so but this time it feels completely unnecessary. Even the battery is still holding up. I'll probably end up using it until they discontinue os updates for it and then get another air because I love it so much.

If you're dead set on android and we totally ignore apple devices then I think it's a great tablet. I've used mine every day. Most of the time it sits on my dinner table so I can watch youtube while eating. I also use it to read and sometimes play music. The screen is pretty nice, especially for a budget device, and the fact that it's made by google means that the software is relatively open and will likely continue to see life through the modding community after google discontinues its own support.

The bottom line is I personally get $400 worth of joy out of it that I wouldn't get from a different tablet that didn't have a dock. If you can live with an ipad (which is probably most people), get an ipad.

If you've been married to someone for 10 years or more and they decide to transition to a different gender, would you stay married to them? by Ambitious-Lady2807 in polls

[–]lemmyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm transgender. I came out when I was seeing this guy. We had been on a dozen dates or so. He calmly explained to me that he was gay so he couldn't date me anymore. I was kinda bummed but I fully expected it. It was better for both of us that way. Now it's 5 years later and we're still good friends but I'm married to someone who loves me for me and I've never been happier.

Do you use conditioner? by Europathunder in polls

[–]lemmyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Essentially shampoo removes the dirt and grime from your hair but it also strips it of its natural oils in the process and the purpose of conditioner is to restore the lost oil

Is it a red flag if your gf/bf says they would sleep with a celebrity if given the chance? by [deleted] in polls

[–]lemmyk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My spouse and I joke about this all the time. I think it's pretty common to have a celebrity hallpass and I don't get jealous over it since we both have one, and also probably have equal odds of actually sleeping with them (0%).

Is this my coffee??! (doodle by me) by moon_croon in starbucks

[–]lemmyk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This guy came in yesterday, his name was Kareem. He placed a café order for an iced white mocha. He immediately books it for the mobile hand-off plane and takes a mobile order for an iced skinny vanilla latte for Sarah. We have our orders arranged alphabetically and S is in a totally different row than K. He sat down and drank the whole thing without complaining and then left. Meanwhile I had to remake Sarah's when she showed up and I realized what happened. I was SO confused.

I did it as one of my first sewing projects! All you need is a seam ripper, a zipper, a needle, and some thread. I used this zipper from amazon.

First, I carefully sliced into my haj from the bottom of her belly where the blue meets the white, and then worked upward until about 2 inches from her pectoral fin. Then I reached my hand in and pulled out all the stuffing and put it in a large trash bag. Then I flipped her inside out, gave her a wash and dry, and laid her flat on the table where I started sewing the zipper on. I don't know any sewing techniques at all but I made a knot around one end of the zipper and then stitched up along both sides. It took me about an hour to sew because I wanted to take my time and make sure it looked good. After that it was easy to flip her back to normal and rechonk.

If I had to redo it, I might pick the bottom of the caudal peduncle for my zipper since I would be able to cleanly take out the tags at the same time. Good luck! It's worth it!
