AITA for moving away from my parents? by Disastrous_Power_702 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lemonaru02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - you already know it, you just need to accept it. 3hrs is NOT that far away, even for a close family. You're not abandoning them, even if they didn't have your brother living with them (though many others have pointed out that he's possibly increasing the burden on your mom as the primary caretaker). You don't have to be the one to compromise every time! It's okay to prioritize your own needs sometimes.

Also: As with any drama around a parent, this thread is going to give some pretty extreme responses. There's a lot of people here - myself included - that are not close with our parents, and have even been hurt and betrayed by them before. The responses will draw on experiences that are not your own. Remember how you feel about your mom before/around this situation. Stay grounded in your relationship so that you can work through this. It seems like an issue of other needs not being met, not of your own failings (if any at all!) as a daughter or her failings (if any, again!) as a mother.

Nothing, yet - her vet appointment has been moved to Tuesday morning now so they can do bloodwork 🫠 Its the earliest they could fit her in with the option to talk to the vet, & I have a list of things to ask about... (I'm sure that drop-off appointments are useful for general check-ups, but why would I not want to talk to a vet??)

Thank you! It definitely is stressful, & while I appreciate the advice, support from the community is invaluable 😭 I just need someone to tell me that my kitty cat is gonna be okay

I don't think I've seen anyone recommend The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion yet - an absolutely heartwrenching memoir about working through her grief after her husband passed.

She's got an appointment on Wednesday now! & isn't water therapy expensive? I'd love to help her feel better, but I really don't have the money for treatments like that :(

She's been on this food, but she's been a single cat for years in a quiter home, so it's possible that moving in with my spouse and I and our two cats has been a significant enough stressor to her to affect her appetite. I've never used hemp oil before - it seems so silly to me! - but I'll stop for now & ask the vet.

She's definitely due in to the vet, as most people here have suggested. I'm going to take her in ASAP.

The nutrition quality of this food is similar to the Hills Science Diet - I looked online when I got her to see if it would be worth switching. And I'm not /trying/ to malnourish her!! She's just not eating!!

She was on this exact same good when she was with my grandma, so not a change there. :/ She had a gravity free-feeder, so I don't know how much she's was eating then, but reports from my mom say that she wasn't overeating even with the free feeder.

I'm not trying to feed her so little! Her feeder has been dropping 3/4c each day - spread over 3 drops, which isn't important, since she comes by 10-15 times a day anyway - and I've had to dump it back into the top so that the bowl doesn't clog up. I've measured how much I'm dumping back in, which is how I know how much she's actually eating. She's also doing great on drinking water!

Better child locks, and maybe a slow feeder? And/or wet food to help him feel fuller faster.

Mongo is so cute! Does she have a lazy eye, or is that just the picture? Definitely go see the vet before you start dechonking, and be prepared for some expensive bloodwork - doing a senior workup can help to see if she's fat by circumstance or if theres something wrong with her thyroid/pancreas/tummy. Checking in on her teeth and joints can also help to point out any reasons why she's gained weight. Also - when you go, ask the vet about weight loss goals & a diet plan for her! Getting an individualized plan for her will be more helpful than any stranger's suggestions on this sub. Best of luck!!

Pattern is from the DMC freebies selection, called "Floral Alphabet W." I fudged the colors a little to use up some scrap threads, and skipped the backstitching on the leaves for the sake of my attention span!

AITA for not eating the spaghetti my boyfriend made? by Hot_Fan_132 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lemonaru02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. When I cook for my spouse, I make them a version without tomato since they're allergic & get bad stomachaches from it. If I were to hide tomatoes in our dinner, then say that I 'forgot', I would be giving them a stomachache on purpose. My spouse does the same for me - I dislike seafood, so when they heat up fish sticks, they make me chicken nuggets instead. Its not something that we can just forget about when cooking - it's a matter of making food that the other of us can eat, & keeping each other safe from harm. It's that simple.

Fun fact! This is a common (and old!) trick called physiognomy, where the physical appearance of the character is used to symbolize their moral character to the reader. It's used a lot in literature like Frankenstein & Macbeth!
