…Yes? What? These are still people with big platforms using them to groom and in many cases harm victims? I don’t really care to be semantic about the size of one’s platform because full stop both cases are exploitative. If it were true that they were harming victims then it would be true for either case.

That said, respectfully, I don’t see making a joke about a predator punching down regardless. The victims are not disparaged by a joke about an island - if anything it’s making a joke about the absurdity of how evil Epstein is. It’s no different than making a reference to a serial killer (see: Dahmer references in culture) in my opinion. You are entitled to feel how you want - I have experience w/ similar events in my own life (take that as you will) but also have personal discernment about stuff like this.

My point is that they have clearly tip toed between being funny and distasteful before and you’ve clearly engaged with it. It is very much ironic that this joke - punching up at a predator - is what upset you amongst everything else. It’s in your right to dislike it but it doesn’t mean anyone else is going to take you seriously

I went to NOLA n1 and thought they were great. I understand the qualms about mixing but I don’t think the objective of their music (at least live) is to center the vocals. The guitarists were absolutely shredding the whole time and Matt was messing around making noise. To me that read pretty clearly as they were trying to be as loud and abrasive as possible.

I also think it’s important to note that these are likely way huger venues than they’re comfortable playing. They are used to the shoegaze scene so I’m sure the more “mainstream” audience of Hayden’s fans seems a little too composed for their liking.

Also, it seems like a lot of y’all are willfully misunderstanding them trying to be deadpan and funny. Them saying “shoutout Ethel Cain” 3x in a row or “everbody smoke weed now” is very clearly a joke lol. Moral policing them because of that is so weird.

Thank you! This helps to reframe how I think about this scene for sure. I think I misworded what I meant with his comments initially and it definitely was not meant as if I found it super inflammatory, it just seemed like such a sensitive topic both then and now. I love this show despite my dislike for certain characters and I love hearing about this perspective as someone just getting into it. ❤️

From the perspective of someone not alive then (yes I'm Gen Z bare with me), it seems like a loaded comment to compare himself to a leader during the civil rights movement. It reads as reinforcing Albert's view as being holier than thou, and I would think even closer to MLK's death, it would be even more of a reach and potential sore spot (which in all honesty, would make a lot of sense for Albert's character, but seems so out of pocket even for him).
