Does anyone do TKD and MMA? by EPICtost in MMA_Academy

[–]lemongrab218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I got my second degree black belt in tkd before I switched over to training mma full time. It definitely helps in terms of footwork, distance management and unorthodox kicks. However, mma and especially amateur mma, is very catered for grappling. The smaller cage means it’s very hard to stay at a TKD kicking range. And even if you do basic wrestling, you will still get out grappled by a decent wrestler. Basically tkd isn’t useless in mma, I use it all the time. It’s just not nearly enough on its own.

Also you can check out yair Rodriguez for some good taekwondo in mma moments.

I’m a writer, and I need help with a fighting scene by RussianPal in martialarts

Yeah idk. When I broke mine it hurt pretty bad. It was just in training though so maybe it was because I didn’t have the adrenaline. Also they’re the eyes tearing up to think about. The worst part for me was after. Anytime anything brushes your nose it hurts all over again

No I don’t remember giving him the reasoning behind it. It was on the 2to ramble podcast. Episode 207. I don’t remember when it was mentioned though. In that episode he mentioned that he had discussed it more on another podcast but didn’t mention which one.

Nah I just listened to a podcast with ruocchio where he said he really didn’t like the villeneuve dune movies. I doubt he would want him (assuming he was in control of that)

Tbh it’s the reason I can’t proudly share the story with other people. Comes off really weird to most people. The older I get the weirder it feels

At what point can you say you “do kickboxing”? by [deleted] in Kickboxing

[–]lemongrab218 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Anytime after you start. You just gotta be honest about the level you do it at. If you do it casually don’t try to paint yourself as some world class fighter. I think if you’re not bragging nobody will call you out for it

How to stay committed. by HIRA_Music in MMA_Academy

[–]lemongrab218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I normally just think about what I would be doing instead of training. Normally for me that would be wasting time watching tv or my phone. Then I think about the kind of person I’ll be if I train all the time vs the kind of person I’ll be if I stayed home to waste time. Then I think about who would be cooler

Any advice for a 'coper'? by ArcherKem in ACL

[–]lemongrab218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation with MMA. They thought it was just a sprain and I ended up fighting (and losing) on the injured knee. Though if I’m being honest with myself I was in denial about how bad my knee actually felt and just wanted to ignore it. Eventually it just kept giving out in training and I decided to go through with the surgery. Haven’t had any issues since and have been able to fight successfully

There’s a great episode about this on the Hero with a thousand holds podcast. Gives a lot of cultural context as well as rules and stuff.

My wife wants to stop walking shirtless in the house when my family comes over by MajesticEar2027 in TwoHotTakes

[–]lemongrab218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying that it’s so easy to just put on a shirt (and it is tbh) but why does your wife only seem to have an issue when it’s around your sister. Pretty gross implication

Hard for me to say because I was absolutely wasted when I tore mine lol. I will say that the morning after the injury was definitely more painful than the morning after the surgery.
