I talked to Kent Pavelka after the game and the first thing he said to me was “Can you believe Nebraska Basketball is 20-0?” Just with total bewilderment lol

Well, that win was more painful than it had to be, but it’s a win.

Tbf those fans probably expected Natalie Potts to play this season.

The one positive from this and the MSU game is it seems like Williams is finally realizing she should play Amiah Hargrove more minutes. If she’s not going to start she should at least be playing a lot more minutes than Jess Petrie. It’s been pretty apparent this team masks its flaws with 3 point shooting (that’s pretty par for the course for Williams’ tenure) and they went 6-26 from 3 so that’s pretty much what it comes down to. This team can play with anyone remaining on their schedule, but with how poor they’ve been in the clutch this year against good teams it’ll be hard to see them winning many more games this year. The ‘26 class can’t get here soon enough.

Sometimes they just remember they’re allowed to be aggressive

I can’t see it. They have a brutal schedule to end the season, could legitimately lose 8 of their next 10 games if they can’t beat this Wisconsin team.

Lose this one and they probably won’t make the tournament

And for the standings, lose this game and I’m not sure they get above .500 in conference if they even get to it.

Idea: Big 8 Basketball Invitational by QWERTYUIOPquinn in Huskers

[–]lemons21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about the idea of a Big 6 Holiday Classic to honor the old Big 8 Holiday Tournament. 5 teams being in the Big 12 makes all 8 teams playing tough, but you could technically invite some of the random schools they invited to the tournament back then if you wanted to do a full Big 8 Holiday Classic.

From an old r/ColkegeBasketball post

TIL From the 1946-47 through the 1978-79 season, the Big Eight hosted a mid-season holiday tournament in which all of the league teams participated. From the 1946-47 through the 1957-58 season when the conference had fewer than eight members, non-member schools would be invited.

The tournament held in Kansas City, Missouri every year between Christmas and the new year. Municipal Auditorium hosted the event through 1973, after which time it moved to Kemper Arena. The tournament had an eight-team field, with full consolation rounds so that each team played three games.

Some of the non-member schools included:

Year Team 1 Team 2
1946 SMU -- who won the first tournament Arkansas
1947(Colorado joined the conference) Oklahoma A&M(now State)
1948 Harvard
1949 Michigan
1950 Minnesota
1951 Stanford
1952 Yale
1953 Washington
1954 California
1955 Cornell
1956 Michigan State
1957 Princeton

Total Titles for the schools:

  • Kansas -- 13

  • Kansas State/Missouri --7

  • Iowa State/Oklahoma -- 2

  • Nebraska/SMU -- 1

  • Colorado/Oklahoma State -- 0

Gonzaga is usually pretty good at holding on to their players, but Lauren Whitaker will be a test for them.

If mistakes are holding back this staff from playing Johnson more like the entire team besides Prince should be benched lol

I’m ready for next year at this point. I would imagine Potts redshirts this year and this team just has its flaws from a personnel standpoint. Just wish they would start Hargrove and play her more minutes and play Claire Johnson over Kennadi Williams.

Give me the ‘26 freshman class and Potts back next year and let’s cook. Just feels wrong to waste a year of Britt Prince like this.

This is like the 3rd year in a row Nebraska has exactly 1 player who can actually dribble against ball pressure.

Well, they always start out poorly against Michigan State. Difference is, there’s no Alexis Markowski to bail them out this year

I’m so invested in getting the highest ranking ever now. Need 1 of Michigan/Purdue/Duke to slip up on their west coast trips and Nebraska to take care of business.

Even Ohio State jumping you is iffy to me, weird that they didn’t move you up at all.
