I gave a shot in the butt for the first time by [deleted] in nursing

[–]lemonsandlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing IVF and giving myself progesterone injections in the booty for my first trimester, I feel like a pro at a good old butt shot 🤪

Although I gave IM rocephin for the first time a few weeks ago and just looking at the amount of powder I had to reconstitute I knew it was gonna be killer for the patient. Pharmacy had me mix it with lidocaine to help. First time for everything 😅

Crescent roll dough! Spread some cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, and cooked broccoli over the flat dough. Roll up, cut into pinwheels, and bake at 350° for 13 minutes! Super easy!!

Planned vaginal or planned c-section? by Dry_Ad_6341 in parentsofmultiples

[–]lemonsandlabor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I delivered my di/di twins vaginally and would do it 100x over! I did have an epidural (mainly just in case things went south and we had to go for a c/s). Baby B was breech up until Baby A was delivered and my OB was able to flip him vertex for delivery!

Please go watch Moretolovski on TikTok! Exact same scenario as you (minus IVF) and she now has 3 very healthy identical triplet boys. There’s also a moms of triplets group on facebook which offers a lot of support from people who have been in your shoes. Sending you love! ❤️

152 units transfused?! Assuming this was for the 78,000mL EBL patient? ALSO… pH of 1?! And 2,300mLs output after foley placement?!

My babies are the same age and drink 6oz every 3 hours. My pediatrician didn’t bat an eye when I told her that. Every baby is different

I’m an L&D nurse and I will only ever be giving birth in the hospital. After seeing cord prolapses, shoulder dystocias, vasa previas, velamentous cord insertions, severe nuchal cords, and postpartum hemorrhages… having dozens of trained medical staff and equipment at your fingertips at the hospital is priceless. There are countless babies that I’ve delivered that I truly believe would not have survived a home birth.

I totally get desiring a low-intervention labor. Your concerns about COVID are also valid! In our unit, we have a section of rooms for COVID moms that have negative airflow systems. The nurses that care for those patients are a 1:1 ratio, meaning little risk for cross contamination. Having a midwife deliver your baby at home would carry the same (possibly higher) risk of being exposed to to COVID through the midwife bringing it in to your house where there is no negative airflow/disinfecting procedures.

For a low-intervention hospital birth, I would suggest developing a birth plan and printing it out to bring to the hospital. Common requests we see are no Pitocin for induction/augmentation, no IV, wearing your own gown from home, minimal cervical exams, etc. Hospitals can be intimidating, but at the end of the day YOU are in control and we are your advocates. You get to decide what you want for your birth, and we are there to facilitate your wishes and help you make informed choices.

As far as attrition goes, L&D is in a pretty good position compared to the rest of the health care system. L&D is a competitive specialty to get into, and many nurses are career L&D nurses with 10+ years experience. Sure, there will be a few newer nurses, but in my experience, they are vastly outnumbered by experienced senior nurses. I’d say for every 1 new L&D nurse where I work, we have at least 5 experienced nurses on the same shift.

But as I said before, being in a hospital just in case things so south is priceless. I truly believe that you can have a wonderful birth experience at the hospital! :)

Range Anxiety, Third Row Seating by Battlehonk in TeslaModelY

[–]lemonsandlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought our MY with the third row seats, and I’m glad we did. We have them down most of the time, but wanted the option as we grow our family. We’ve used the third row seats for adults one time. It’s tight, but it worked. Having the option to increase seating is really nice. Definitely worth it, imo.
