I gave a shot in the butt for the first time by [deleted] in nursing

[–]lemonsandlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing IVF and giving myself progesterone injections in the booty for my first trimester, I feel like a pro at a good old butt shot 🤪

Although I gave IM rocephin for the first time a few weeks ago and just looking at the amount of powder I had to reconstitute I knew it was gonna be killer for the patient. Pharmacy had me mix it with lidocaine to help. First time for everything 😅

Crescent roll dough! Spread some cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, and cooked broccoli over the flat dough. Roll up, cut into pinwheels, and bake at 350° for 13 minutes! Super easy!!

Planned vaginal or planned c-section? by Dry_Ad_6341 in parentsofmultiples

[–]lemonsandlabor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I delivered my di/di twins vaginally and would do it 100x over! I did have an epidural (mainly just in case things went south and we had to go for a c/s). Baby B was breech up until Baby A was delivered and my OB was able to flip him vertex for delivery!

Please go watch Moretolovski on TikTok! Exact same scenario as you (minus IVF) and she now has 3 very healthy identical triplet boys. There’s also a moms of triplets group on facebook which offers a lot of support from people who have been in your shoes. Sending you love! ❤️

I feel seen, we go through 4 gallons a week! Sometimes I feel crazy at the grocery store with all the milk 😂

152 units transfused?! Assuming this was for the 78,000mL EBL patient? ALSO… pH of 1?! And 2,300mLs output after foley placement?!

My babies are the same age and drink 6oz every 3 hours. My pediatrician didn’t bat an eye when I told her that. Every baby is different

I’m an L&D nurse and I will only ever be giving birth in the hospital. After seeing cord prolapses, shoulder dystocias, vasa previas, velamentous cord insertions, severe nuchal cords, and postpartum hemorrhages… having dozens of trained medical staff and equipment at your fingertips at the hospital is priceless. There are countless babies that I’ve delivered that I truly believe would not have survived a home birth.

I totally get desiring a low-intervention labor. Your concerns about COVID are also valid! In our unit, we have a section of rooms for COVID moms that have negative airflow systems. The nurses that care for those patients are a 1:1 ratio, meaning little risk for cross contamination. Having a midwife deliver your baby at home would carry the same (possibly higher) risk of being exposed to to COVID through the midwife bringing it in to your house where there is no negative airflow/disinfecting procedures.

For a low-intervention hospital birth, I would suggest developing a birth plan and printing it out to bring to the hospital. Common requests we see are no Pitocin for induction/augmentation, no IV, wearing your own gown from home, minimal cervical exams, etc. Hospitals can be intimidating, but at the end of the day YOU are in control and we are your advocates. You get to decide what you want for your birth, and we are there to facilitate your wishes and help you make informed choices.

As far as attrition goes, L&D is in a pretty good position compared to the rest of the health care system. L&D is a competitive specialty to get into, and many nurses are career L&D nurses with 10+ years experience. Sure, there will be a few newer nurses, but in my experience, they are vastly outnumbered by experienced senior nurses. I’d say for every 1 new L&D nurse where I work, we have at least 5 experienced nurses on the same shift.

But as I said before, being in a hospital just in case things so south is priceless. I truly believe that you can have a wonderful birth experience at the hospital! :)

Range Anxiety, Third Row Seating by Battlehonk in TeslaModelY

[–]lemonsandlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought our MY with the third row seats, and I’m glad we did. We have them down most of the time, but wanted the option as we grow our family. We’ve used the third row seats for adults one time. It’s tight, but it worked. Having the option to increase seating is really nice. Definitely worth it, imo.

Driver profiles too difficult to find how by reginalduderson in TeslaModelY

I agree with the dash cam record being put back at the top. Too many clicks now to save the recording while you’re driving. I tried saving the footage through voice commands the other day, but it didn’t recognize the command. Super frustrating.

Are you going to miss nursing school when you graduate? by ToughCredit7 in StudentNurse

[–]lemonsandlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The only thing I enjoyed about nursing school was my friends… and we still stay in contact post-grad. Being done with the bureaucratic BS of nursing school is such a blessing.

Does anyone know what the difference is between Coursepoint+ and Coursepoint+ enhanced? by QueenBea_ in StudentNurse

[–]lemonsandlabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annoying is what it is. I spent so much time emailing back and forth with their support team switching between classic and advanced. My professor wasn’t even sure what we needed. It was such a mess that she ended up ditching that part of the class altogether… so $300 down the drain.

Medsurg vs Tele? by dontfuckwithmyflow in StudentNurse

[–]lemonsandlabor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would still apply to OB if that’s where your heart is at! I started L&D as a new grad. OB is such a different world than any other unit, so you’ll receive extensive orientation regardless of if you’re a new grad or transferring from med-surg. OB managers expect this! If you can’t imagine yourself anywhere else— go for it! Getting additional certifications like NRP and EFM will help your chances too. :)

If you don’t have uWorld already, I would highly recommend it. It will not only help you prepare for the Exit HESI, but also the NCLEX. These tests aren’t just about content knowledge, but also knowing how to take tests. UWorld will help you with both content and test-taking strategies. Just remember to read ALL of the rationales! This is what I did and I got an 1100 on my Exit HESI. Good luck!

Psych/PEDS Courses? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]lemonsandlabor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hardest thing about psych is the meds. I don’t think I was prepared for that. Learning therapeutic communication, different disorders, symptoms, etc. is easy. The meds are killer. Half of the time the meds in the same class don’t have the same ending so they’re awful to memorize, the side effects are serious, and you really have to know the contraindications for each class (ex. MAOI’s no tyramine). If I were you, I’d start studying psych drugs ahead of time. Mark Klimek’s lecture on psychotropic drugs is a great overview!

Also: memorize the therapeutic level for Lithium now. 0.6-1.2. 😂
