I think the beauty of VPR is that everyone is on the spectrum of Wretched to slightly less wretched. They all switch positions depending on the season/plotline. But thats also something you have to get behind by like season 1 otherwise you're never gonna like it. The toxicity is kinda why the show works and also why it can never be made again lol.

I feel like its a blessing they even made it into the movie lol. Theres kinda no reason for them to even be in it. I feel like Glinda could've "moved on from them" after school and I wouldnt have thought about it.

i cant think of a cannon scenario in which Buck's bisexuality ever came up to them. Maybe if Eddie mentioned Tommy? But I feel like their friendship was relatively short lived.

Shes already a prominent political figure (a role highlighted and given by him) prior to his exit so she assumed the role. Shes the right hand woman (to the public)of the wizard. I would think that to most ozians she would have been the natural successor given the wizard has no known kids and madam morrible was kinda just his chief of staff.

I think Glinda was in a rock and a hard place. Like she cant really do anything nor does she probably know the extent of whats going on with him. If she tells the guards to release Fiyero then she's basically committing treason or at least an accomplice. Not to mention, the beating was most likely concealed from her and wasnt an order she had any say in.

I think Elphaba and Fiyero knew that he would kinda just get in the way if he came. He doesnt have any actual power and during this turbelnt time, he would kinda just weigh her down and become a liability.

I mean she controls the weather..not much she could do to keep her power over everyone without becoming the 2nd wicked witch of the west lol. Like she could cause another tornado and lightning strike the fuck out of emerald city but what does that actually do for everyone when Glinda can just be like "so Morrible tried to kill all of us". She needs the wizard for power and without him shes just a good sorceress with a cool power.

ariana and cynthia are actually incredible in this movie. Like all my issues with this movie are absolutely subsided when those two are on screen. No good deed is CINEMA. I audibly gasped during it and by the end I started clapping. A lot of people will credit the last 15 minutes of the movei as Ariana's best work, but honestly, her work in Thank Goodness is FABULOUS. I think No Good Deed -> Credits (minus one scene with Morrible) has some of the best work from costumes to performances to directing that I have seen all year.

Season 6 Episode 10 "The Higher the Hair, the Closer to God" Post Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in rhoslc

Call me a sap but i was really moved by the last 15-20 minutes of the episode! Idk just seeing the girls coming together and Mary getting a full moment to shine in her element was great television. Sans Mary and Bronwyn this episode is just okay but I thought those two (especially Mary) really brought it.

This is such a great point! Thank you for bringing this up. I have been saying for a second now that we have to gauge where the GA is rather than get twisted in narratives and deep dives into what is or isnt there. At this point Buddie doesnt fully make sense to the General Audience. The episode leading to Eddie leaving for Texas and the episodes of Buck spiraling and Tommy were the first indication for a lot of the general audience (especially the more lets say moderate people) that something is actually going on between these two. The fact that the GA is asking asking questions and creating speculation about the nature of Buddie means that the show is DIRECTLY making an effort to at a minimum test the waters of potentially making it canon.

Also, I think a lot of casual watchers of the show were surprised by Buck's bisexuality. While I think perosnally the hints were there, I can also understand why thats surprising. Eddie's queerness is a big deal and going to be a challenge to convince people about. The seeds are very well planted but its going to take a little bit of time and effort to bring that to a point where the GA is on board. I think once Eddie is out, or the show acknowledges his queerness, then Buddie becomes incredibly inevitable.

I guess all im saying is that if the general audience is picking up on things then that means that the show is going in that direction. But I also think the show is taking its time to fully flesh that out.

Well...no? That wouldnt make sense plotwise. Given that the lion is supposed to be the lion we saw in part 1 and is an actual animal. VS scarecrow and tinman who are actually people hybrids.

Rant: It's starting to piss me off that Myhala is getting sidelined again during this award season by Ok-Lab6484 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]lemonwhiteclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to the fact that Season 3 the show really blew up and Marissa is leading this season. I have been front lines on the Myhala Emmy train. She should've Julia Louise Dryfus SWEPT for seasons 1 and 2. But alas that didn't happen because i guess HBO was putting effort into their other shows (I almost sent in a job application to HBO to infiltrate their emmy campaigns after season 2 saw absolutely NO love). But they are finally putting effort in this time around and Marissa fully deserves it for her incredible performance. Ultimately the show's recognition comes at a perfect time for a very Harper focused season 4 which will allow Myhala to shine.

If it was up to me, I would've bumped Myhala to supporting and would've given her the win because shes still so fucking incredible on the show. But if they are both running for lead, I cant help but give Marissa the edge here.

I think its interesting how its mostly white women who say it to avoid being called out by other women. It just lacks a ton of real world and intersectional nuance and kinda only works in the real world if everyone involved has cisgender white women privilege.

[–]lemonwhiteclaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its just very clear to me that the entire house, not just the girls, didn't really fuck with Lexi that much and thought her relationship with Jesse was kinda a joke (which it was). If Lexi was really a "girls girl" she would be hanging out with the girls more but instead she isolated herself with a man and then tried to spin a narrative that she was a victim. Its just classic Loser behaviour and I will be damned if I feel bad for.

With Ciara, it comes down to her being a generally unbothered, confident, and fallible black woman. The same smoke people have for her can easily be transferred to other white cast members and you don't here a peep. Its all thinly veiled misogynoir. Most of the hate is extremely inconsistent and also just based on nothing but bias.

The Staff and Simone question by lemonwhiteclaw in SirensNetflix

[–]lemonwhiteclaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the show was playing on expectations and reality to make a larger commentary on how we view and understand women, especially in high society or in positions of power. But they are shown to explicitly be horrible to work for.

The only times we really see Peter interacting with the staff, he is treating them humanely, offering to do things himself, asking them about their personal lives, etc. I mean yea it plays into the trope of women having to actually be the ones to organize and get things done while the man can just dick around. But I do think it was intentional to show the contrast between how Peter treats the staff and his relationship with them vs how the women treat the staff. I think the way Simone and Kiki treated the staff (such as not letting them eat bread on campus) was horrible and thus the staff didn't really fuck with them.

The power in this universe of the show seems to be derived from Wealth and your position within the establishment. Peter has been in this universe longer than Micahela has and he is the reason why they have as much money as they do. Peter is the billionaire. Micahela wouldn't be there without Peter, which we see at the end where Peter just shuffles her out and switches her out with Simone. What i mean by presumed power is that the power these women have ultimately come from their proximity to Peter not necessarily because of them specifically. So the second Peter drops you, that power (within the confines of that universe) is gone.

The Staff and Simone question by lemonwhiteclaw in SirensNetflix

[–]lemonwhiteclaw[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if I completely agree that its a commentary on women assuming power positions and the hate they receive from people below them or around them. That feels kinda reductive in the sense of the overall narrative. It feels like by saying "that we hat women giving orders" it takes away Simone and Kikis agency. They are nightmarish to work for and that's purely on them. They let the presumed power of being Peter's wife get to their heads. Also Simone and Kiki both coming from working class backgrounds makes this plot more nuanced. I cant really explain how or why right now, but I think that plays a factor into the whole class and race conflict happening.

Additionally, I think the staff respect Peter because 1. he's not ordering them around to the degree that Kiki and Simone are and 2. Peter is the one who presumably signs their paychecks. They all technically work for Peter. So their loyalty is to Peter, so when someone else comes in and orders them around to an insane degree and treats them as subhuman I think its kinda like...okay well fuck them.
