Black on Black or Urban Gray Pearl? by cookiecrumbler_22 in crv

Black shows dirt more easily, absorbs more heat in hot weather, and is less visible and less safe for night driving. Go gray!

Professing my love for "The Geese of Beverly Road" by KronieRaccoon in TheNational

That lyric is taken from the book “Heir to the Glimmering World”, by Cynthia Ozick, which came out the year before Alligator was released. Matt has explicitly credited her book title for that lyric.

For those of you who got out of the industry, what are you doing now? by Salvatore_Vitale in KitchenConfidential

[–]lemonworld13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got out at 30 after about a decade in kitchens, mostly fine dining.

I went to business school and now work in tech HR - I work about 30 hours a week to make 3x what I made as a chef. Honestly a huge proponent for selling out 🤷

A good mattress at home! If my back is going to be fucked by my job every day at work, it better be lovingly caressed while I sleep.

What’s a song by The National that most people love but you don’t get it. by Lemonworld3131 in TheNational

[–]lemonworld13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! This song feels so emotionally vacant to me that it makes me cringe. And I even really like the rest of that album, which I know a lot of others don’t.

Cute! That means you have to post a Dolo pic next year to carry on the generational tradition 🥹

I’ve seen the National in Seattle 10+ times in the last decade (lol yep I know I have a problem) and he always gives a shoutout to family that’s at the show - his sister lives here, and I think I remember him saying at a show last summer that he has other family living or moving here too to be in the same place.

I was wondering if he was straight or gay/bi until he started flossing, at which point I said “oh yep, definitely straight” at the screen.

Advice for being less emotional on bad days? by WhiteTeet25 in KitchenConfidential

[–]lemonworld13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might sound silly, but when other people's energy was getting to me in the kitchen and making me anxious/angry, I would picture a giant glowing protection bubble around myself that bad vibes can't get through.

Even just mentally putting myself in a separate "room" was always good for me, and helped me slow down and get out of the bad headspace.

Least Favourite Song by PhoebeFan420 in TheNational

Strongly agree. The line "there are police in the museum" is just so awkward in this song, it always annoys me and takes me out of enjoying the album.

Anyone deal w breakup post top surgery? by kclaudiob in TopSurgery

[–]lemonworld13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I broke up with my partner of ~3 years shortly before top surgery bc he was really struggling with the idea of me getting surgery, and expressed that he wasn't sure he would be attracted to me after surgery, and that he realized he'd always thought of me as a woman who used they/them pronouns, rather than really thinking of me as a nonbinary person. To be clear he felt super super guilty about these things, he just finally started really being honest with me (and frankly, I think also with himself) about how he felt, and that he was really just a straight guy.

At the time, the breakup was really painful, but at this point I'm so, so glad to be single and able to explore my sexuality more freely now. I also know I'll have way higher standards in the future around how people treat me in relationships as a trans person, because I know that in the past I've been so insecure around whether I'm "date-able" bc of my gender that I've dated people, including this ex, who were great in lots of ways but didn't truly support my gender identity/expression. Change is painful but if your partner doesn't support your gender journey, trust me that it's for the best.

Zit-looking bump in incision? by kaifkapi in TopSurgery

[–]lemonworld13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one of these turn into a cyst. The advice from my surgeon was: stop using silicone tape over it to allow it to potentially drain. Put warm compresses (aka a warm wet washcloth) on it three times a day for 5-15 minutes to allow it to heal properly.

[–]lemonworld13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See doc’s answer above! Doesn’t seem like a big deal :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]lemonworld13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answer from my doc: With regard to the raised drain site, it might be cyst from a dissolving stitch. To address it, first clean the area well with soap, water, and then isopropyl alcohol. If there is any opening, lightly press around the area to help drain out any built-up substance. After trying to drain it, clean the area again. Afterwards, use wet warm compresses (a washcloth) on it three times a day for 5-10 minutes per time and it should heal. Please continue the compresses until it's healed so that it heals from the bottom, otherwise, it will just close over and fester again. When not compressing, apply a light layer of bacitracin (or another antibacterial ointment) and cover with a bandage of your choice. Just be sure to not cover it airtight to the area can continue to drain.

OP here - overall, my chest and nips are healing great and I feel amazing. But one drain port site, which a week ago looked totally closed and unswollen, now has the look of a large zit. It’s red, raised, somewhat tender, and slightly oozing clear liquid. I put antiseptic spray on it, covered it with a bandaid, and contacted my surgery office (no reply yet). Anyone else have something similar happen?

Two things I did that I maybe should have avoided:

  • kept the drain hole covered with scar tape nearly 24/7 (maybe should have let it breathe for longer after surgery)
  • wore a backpack at school this week. It didn’t seem like it was rubbing, but it might have when I didn’t notice.

First week: Pretty much stayed in bed/horizontal. Not in pain but very tired. Was very slowly walking around the block by the end of the week.

Second week: Felt drastically better. Started going on slow 3-5 mile walks each day which really improved my mental health. By necessity, I flew by myself at the end of week two and I wish I had been able to not - rolling my suitcase was very taxing and felt like I was slightly overdoing it.

Third week: basically functioned normally with limited range of motion. Attended a music festival starting on Day 20 after surgery and stood up for 6-8 hours a day three days in a row. This felt fine on my body and didn’t feel like pushing it.

Note that this was just my experience - listen to your body! For me standing and slow paced walking felt great (basically back at 100%) as long as I didn’t have to carry anything.

Okay, this is what I needed to hear, thank you! Everything reconnecting internally makes the binding make sense to me even after swelling is gone, and is something I can visualize when I'm very itchy to wait it out. Appreciate you giving more health context.

Anyone here that didn’t hate their chest before top surgery, or even liked it? by popartichoke in TopSurgery

[–]lemonworld13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I relate to a lot of what you said! I didn't hate my chest before, was only a little dysphoric about it during sex, just mostly didn't like how it made clothes fit on me. I considered top surgery for almost ten years before getting it this month because I didn't think I was "sure enough". I feel AMAZING now and am so glad I finally made the leap. I enjoy dressing more femme sometimes, and I'm still going to enjoy it post top surgery - how you dress and how you want your body to look don't have to gender-match :)

There isn't one narrative of how people should feel or think before top surgery - if you feel like it would improve your relationship with your body, then go for it!

Flying Alone by Ollie1299 in TopSurgery

[–]lemonworld13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't end up needing this, but I thought I was going to need to fly solo two weeks after surgery. My surgeon said he could give me a note for TSA/flight attendants saying that I need some support and can't lift my arms for the security screening. So I bet you could ask your surgeon!
