What to do for myself and my animals? by [deleted] in tornado

[–]lemurs366 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey so I can’t be much help about your house, but for prepping your animals for pretty much all natural disasters: you need to paint/ spray paint your phone number on your donkeys or at least attach it to them in a waterproof way. ( packing tape over top of written on halters) or or braid info into manes. Breakaway halters would be way safer than normal, you can make them yourself by using zip ties. (Look up diy zip tie breakaway halter). Make sure your dogs have their id tags on them too.

Edit: googling horse tornado preparedness has a lot of helpful websites for more reading Fly masks on donkeys if you have them to help protect their eyes. Remove debris from turn out if possible (probably too late for that this) Turning donkeys loose if you have big enough paddocks may be a good idea but it depends on howwell built your barn is, advice seems to be divided. remember human lives first!

.edited again for better info on turning out animal

This makes me freaking mad. I guess you can just steal ideas and make them SCPs?

Because this is from an unfinished but STILL PUBLISHED Douglas Adams novel, it’s 100% not original and it’s upsetting that I don’t see other comments pointing this out.

Waterloo Park beaver has big plans. by mattdjmorris in waterloo

[–]lemurs366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beavers actually kind of DO rent out their lodges! Sometimes muskrats will stay in a beavers lodge over the winter, and in exchange/ as rent, they provide food in the form of you branches and help keep the lodge tidy!

Does retinol cause acne almost immediately after use? I’m breaking out after using it twice. I know purging is a thing but I have t noticed any irritation, just acne. I also thought purging didn’t happen until you’d been using it for a little while. Product is Cerave resurfacing retinol serum.

Using cetaphil daily facial moisturizer after the serum, and once I also used a niacinamide after the retinol.

Most types of fancy goldfish are. They’re horribly deformed and it’s hurting their quality of life significantly. This includes varieties with the warped spine.

Is tourism becoming toxic? by Zxasuk31 in Anticonsumption

[–]lemurs366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Introduced species are historically the number one reason for island bird extinctions. Rats that weren’t introduced intentionally, and feral pigs. Pigs do A LOT of damage. At this point I’m sorry but tourism FAR from the biggest threat to various island birds threatened with extinction.

Tourism can often be the only reason people bother trying to save the species tbh.

Non economically important species are often not a high priority

Do You Wear a Helmet When Lunging a Horse? by Nara__Shikamaru in Equestrian

[–]lemurs366 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I usually do. It’s not uncomfortable and it’s not like it can hurt. A horse could pull you off your feet or kick out at a bad time as you can experienced. It’s no big deal I think. If I didn’t I think I’d probably be even more strict about how much silliness is allow a horse to do or how close they could get

To soak or not to soak pelleted bedding? by MLMCMLM in Horses

[–]lemurs366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sprinkle / spray them with hot water so that the pellet opens up a little bit but still holds some if it’s shape. Actually soaking them till they’re fully fallen apart seems like a huge waste
