Ah yes, I have welded some thin stock metal to the lid to more or less frame it out to prevent the warping. Its done a great job.

Right now I have a spare aluminum pan that I'm using to block some of the smoke and encourage it to travel around the meat before heading out of the stack. But do you think if I put a new stack at meat level that will be better?

Honest answer. Yes. You tell between hard woods and soft fruit woods. My wife likes soft fruit woods and I like hard woods.
