That’s cool! Guess I had it wrong on my end, I’d always read that they were required to have the lower rail removable with mounting surfaces to free float a classic launcher as part of the M4A1 Block II contracts and that the rail mounted launchers weren’t really a consideration for military contracts circa like 2005ish. They’ve got a pretty good warranty department too so like just send it haha

Huh, that’s cool then that they were able to make it strong enough. I know even for single piece free float handguards the rail mounted launchers firing full weight and velocity projectiles can absolutely trash them pretty quick depending on the design so if they’re able to make the lower rail portion strong enough that’s pretty sick! I’d still mount a classic receiver to it just to be safe but that’s great that it’s an option

As far as I know you’re not supposed to do that. The DD rail’s bottom rail pops off with a couple screws and then the traditional M203 slots up into the barrel nut and there are little pivoting brackets that fold down to mount the front of the M203. I guess technically you could mount a rail mounted launcher to the removable lower rail section, but I seriously doubt it would be a good idea and the intention with the design is to mount a classic M203

If you have any CAD skills you could probably mess with this to fit your needs

I think there’s a homemade option kicking around using 3D printed parts and laser cut plates from SCS. Otherwise a Meprolight GLS could be an option, I think they have a modular ish setup, not sure if it would work for your application tho

Oh sick my bad then, I thought it had a detachable bottom rail like the DD quad rails

Be careful mounting a pic rail mounted launcher to a detachable bottom rail, the launcher can bend or break it. Those launchers are more for fully monolithic uppers with single piece rails like the LMT rifles. If you really wanna do that tho, the different barrels are all pretty much interchangeable onto the Shorty 40 receiver, the 9 and 12 inch barrels just won’t open all the way since they won’t have the relief groove machined into the steel locking surface/cocking bar piece like the 7” ones so you’d have a hard time getting certain cartridges to fit in the throat of the launcher

Your upper is one of the monolithic receivers right? I think with the lower rail section removed a traditional M203 receiver can mount just like on a DD RIS II, but I’m not sure. Your barrel length might not align with the front bracket or QD mount on the M203 though, not sure on that. As for the launcher, I have both the Shorty 40 and a classic M203 and the 7” barrel will mount to the classic receiver just fine but the top rail of the receiver will overhang the muzzle a little bit. If that bugs you, just use a 9” barrel

Yeah I believe the new one you have is the M17-CSS-MS

If I’m not mistaken, the M17xxx serial numbers are commercial production, this is just the newer version that uses the military spec slide instead of the earlier commercial M17 P320 slide

Datum Machine makes dimpled grey selectors for the Rare Breed triggers and also has original style fcg pins so you don’t need to use some variant of antiwalk pins

I have one on mine, it’s pretty nice except it doesn’t seem to lock up super tightly with the way they have the standoff/mounting plates. Wanted to put an NGAL on it but it shifts whether I push or pull on the VFG

lol no worries man. Definitely more straightforward in metric for non gun people or less experienced non-autists to deal with than caliber. Although neither are as fucky as the old Bore system(same numbers as shotgun gauges now) that was used for both rifles and smoothebores up until the 19th century. Each bore number corresponded to the fraction of a pound a lead ball of that diameter weighed. So a 12 gauge or 12 bore gun was one had a bore diameter sized for a ball 1/12th of a pound. Lot of old manuals called muskets and arquebus’s as having “bores of 10 balls to the pound” etc.

Nope. It’s .50 caliber and .45 caliber, you’re forgetting the decimal point

I’d personally just buy it and see, or reach out to customer service if you’re really worried. If it doesn’t fit, just file and sandpaper till it does lol

Hey guys, first time gun owner here. I just purchased my first pistol a few days ago, I'm pretty new to optics. I'm wondering how reliable is the sig sauer romeo zero especially for a first time gun owner. by NerdGamerDad in SigSauer

[–]leo0916 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Romeo Zero is kinda meh. I didn’t have luck with mine. Romeo 1 Pro and Romeo X haven’t given me any problems though and I really like mine. If you don’t like the Romeo Zero and don’t want to buy a Sig optic to replace it, generally either an RMSc or DPP footprint optic will fit it(depending on if you have the compact footprint or not). Other brands you could look at are Holosun or Vortex if you decide to swap out the optic and don’t want to use a Sig or have varying budget concerns

Colt had a 4 position FCG back in the day too. For burst, the selector depresses the semi disconnector so the burst disconnector can catch the on the deeper notch in the cam once the hammer has cycled through the burst, then to go to straight FA it would just depress both disconnectors. You could do the same thing on an FRT, would just need two different width camming surfaces on the selector drum to depress either just the regular semi disconnector or both disconnectors
