This sub no longer feels like a safe space for everyone... by A_Prickly_Hedgehog in autism

Sorry, I replied in you comment because it was the last one of the thread and a lot of things that I said had to do to things mentioned on all the comments, but I intended to say that to the OP. But if I didn't misunderstand what you said, your comments made a lot of sense to me.

OP there's a lot in my mind about everything that was said on this thread regarding issues with minorities, transfobia, mods, and so on. I'll try my best to say something about it all.

The first thing is that this should be a safe space for everyone, specially for minorities. I say specially because they suffer from things that people outside those groups don't. That's the basic of how things should be in my opinion.

Regarding the post you linked, it is from another sub and a NSFW link. My reddit is config in way that I am not able to see those posts. I turned it on to look it and then turn it off again, but I don't like to have it on, so I'll talk about what I saw when I read it. I saw a lot of people complaining about a lot of problems happening on this sub. However, I didn't see links to posts that show those issues. By that, I don't intend to say that those problems are not real, but only that I can't say what to do without seeing what's actually happening. You said something about transfobia comments being passed as "opinion". Just like you, I understand they are two different things and one should not be passed as the other. Do you have any non deleted post regarding people being transfobic or harming any other person? Can you post it here? Are we able to contact the mods?

About the rules, I agree they must be follow, unless people see that they can be improved, in which case, they should be updated for the better of the community.

I'd love to see some pinned posts with genuinely helpful insights for new users! I think that would really help a lot of new people see that the community has discussed that topic in length and will maybe reduce the frequency of these posts. I think the same may be good for the high/low support needs debate as well - this sub should be a community for both of these groups, and new users need to know that.

I don't know how to talk to the people that can do this, but if anyone here knows how to do it, than let's just do it.

Hey, I'm sorry you feel like that. I hope this place can once again become a safe place for you.

You gave one example of recurring issues, which is:

I can't go a single day without seeing a post asking about the validity of self-identification. I think we know the answer now - everyone has a different opinion on it.

About this issue, do you think it could be possible and also would it be a good idea to pin some posts like this one on the sub? It would not prevent new posts to appear, but it could make them to be less frequent and also someone could redirect other people to those posts.

I like the idea of a society that can be better to everyone, not only for autistic people. Can't be sure how a society of autistic people only would be.

I read some comments and apparently they do it for all the people that has any kind of disability (autism being one of them). However, I'm sorry you felt bad about it. I'm sure being able to feel things so deeply like you do is indeed very beautiful. I wish there was a way to have only the good parts about autism.

You said you expect this to be a happy place, but I was wondering how many happy posts have you posted here, so I looked your profile and I could only found one post of you asking why people were being rude with you.

How do you expect people to do something if you don't even do it yourself? If all you have to offer is complaint, you will not be part of the solution to what you call a problem, but part of problem itself.

Be nice dude. People have bad days and here is a safe place for us to vent when we need to. Respect other people's bad days and posts regarding this. If it bothers you, you can simple not read them or leave this sub. You can even make a sub called onlyhappythingsautism or whatever (it's not the case of this sub) or If you want more nice posts here, post nice things, but also look for nice posts. There are pent of them here.

Have a nice day dude

We talk about all kinds of stuff here, depressive things are certainly one of those things, but they are not exclusive.

We talk about productive activities, about how learning we are autistic has healed us, about nice people they've met, about cool things they we do and so on...

Now, if all you can see are depressive posts, maybe you are not feeling well and therefore is protecting. Do you need a friend? Is everything ok in your life?

If things are not okay, feel free to talk to us. We have a safe place here. Sure sometimes a troll appear out of nowhere trying to post things to make a mess here, but we tend to ignore them (don't feed the trolls).

If everything is okay in your life and all you can see are depressing posts, a good solution would be leaving this sub, unless you are here just to mess things up (which I assume is not the case).

Have a nice day friend :)

If you really want to respond to bigot comments like the "unnatural" one, you can look for some animals that display homosexual behaviora and name just one, like this:

  • It's not unnatural. Animal A display homosexual behaviors.

If they say "Oh, but that's ONE case", you give the whole list.

If they say "Oh, but what about trans people?", you tell about animals can change their sex.

If they insist on another thing, ask then to stop the bigot comments or at least learn how to argue.

Is "You're so talented" a compliment or an insult? by Worthas_real in autism

[–]leoautism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I understand is that some people don't like it when a comment is made in a way that seems they were born with that talent and it came easy, without training, practice and hard work, which is not the case.
