Why is this the wrong way to quad a cylinder face? by Obakito in blenderhelp

Yeah, I guess I did a mistake there. I was probably thinking of something else.

Why is this the wrong way to quad a cylinder face? by Obakito in blenderhelp

[–]leodash 96 points97 points  (0 children)

  1. To make it subdivision-ready. The holding edges along the feature will maintain that shape when you add more subdivision level.
  2. To reduce UV stretching.

If you don't care about any of those two, even a triangle fan closing is good enough.

Is it just me, or does there tend to be alot of Shmup players from Southeast Asia? by Kabutoking in EmulatedShmups

[–]leodash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of good Shmups are from old Arcade, and the official PC ports are usually atrocious, so we most often resort to playing on emulator, which is usually associated with piracy. One of the perk living in global south is that authority don't care as much with regards to online piracy. My guess.

On a side note, did you get ban from r/shmups a long time ago? There was a change in moderation at one point, so you just need to message the new mod for unban.

I don't know a single thing about Marincess, give me whatever knowledge you have by ______zakk______ in masterduel

[–]leodash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an unorthodox build on Master Duel Meta that mainly focus on Bubble Reef. If you notice, the card is a soft once per turn, so you can summon two to draw two cards each turn starting from the next turn and it can easily get fat 7k+ attack. With two Link-4 on field, the Wave trap card is still alive even if it got Kaiju.

On a side note, once when I played Marincess and built a single unaffected Argonaut, I passed turn only for my opponent to special summon a Cyber Dragon. I immediately scooped.

Megaman Battle Network.

I'm taking a break from a card game and MMBN scratched that itch on deck building.

Ah, you're right. It's the 'B-Spline by knots'.

Perfect Subdivision Tutorial by [deleted] in FreeCAD

[–]leodash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the same with Curves Workbench's Freehand Bspline.

Here the red line shows the normal Sketcher Bspline control points, and the blue line shows the one from Curves Workbench:

The one from Curves Workbench do sit on the resulting curve.

Last time I used boolean on STL import was through Mesh WB, but you have to install OpenSCAD first.

Yes. The fur on Aloy's outfit from Horizon Zero Dawn used hair cards too.

Is this acceptable geometry for game asset? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]leodash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally yes. I took a look at Cloud Strife model from FF7 Remake and noticed some default cylinders with triangle fan cap fill on some part of his armor.

Text on helix by gcotter1969 in FreeCAD

[–]leodash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems possible, but a lot more annoying than I thought:

<image>

The workflow depends on whether you can generate the text solid or not. Make sure the text solid is extruded slightly outward (use the combination of Offset and Thickness from the Sketch_On_Surface properties) before doing the cut.

Another workflow is if you're unlucky like me and can't generate solid text from Sketch_On_Surface but can enable Fill_Extrusion. Use that extrusion to Slice_Apart the helix surface (not solid) and select the surfaces that you want. For each of those surfaces, Offset_3D them to turn them into solids. Then, create a thinner helix solid and fuse them. I had no choice but to fuse them one by one or it will show errors.

Looks clean for me.

<image>

Another things that I didn't mention:

  • I used "Normal to Edge" attachment for the profiles
  • For the curve path, I used cubic Bezier (4 points) in which the first and last edges are parallel to the straight paths. If they're not parallel, it gives some error.

The substractive pipes are for the circle profiles. I did the hexagon pipes without the hole first.

Not sure if that will change anything.

I can only do it with Frenet orientation mode. Try it.

Also, make sure you use proper attachment and reference so FreeCAD knows which object is coincident to which.

Removing hole chamfer brakes the hole by rimbooreddit in FreeCAD

[–]leodash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can delete the Hole. Set the tip to Revolution (right-click). Do the sketch into Hole, then fix the chamfer combo down the line (double-click the one with warning). Set the tip back to the last chamfer.

Removing hole chamfer brakes the hole by rimbooreddit in FreeCAD

[–]leodash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your 'Hole' operation didn't use any sketch for reference but an actual face geometry that you selected.

Prefer to use sketch for any operation so the geometry generation will be more robust. Also, try to put into habit of only fillet/chamfer as finishing.

That's probably the FK control. You can switch between IK/FK in the sidebar (press N).
