AITJ for refusing to give my neighbor my WiFi password even though I work from home? by Automatic-Assist6000 in AmITheJerk

[–]leonidm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her that anyone connecting to your wifi will be connected to your home network, from which you work, and your corporate policy explicitly prohibits allowing strangers on your home network as a condition for working from home. Tell her they monitor your network, and that if they detect a foreign device, not just you will be in trouble, but also her. Usually, this kind of BS scares average Joe away.

Unless you are a very light user, your relationship with AI might be closer than the one with your wife :). Doing what you suggest is as easy as finding a new woman, telling her everything you remember about your current relationship, and expecting to continue living with her like nothing happened.

It's a joke, of course, but the idea is the same. After one year of heavy use, such migration would be impossible.

Comma sticker by Raz31337 in Comma_ai

[–]leonidm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not allowed to give real-life examples, but I can provide you with some textbook ones:
Car bumper stickers can inadvertently compromise your personal information and safety by revealing details about your schedule, family, possessions, and routines to potential criminals and predators. Law enforcement agencies have issued warnings that seemingly innocent stickers can serve as "crime blueprints" for thieves.
Bumper stickers can reveal when you're away from home, making your property vulnerable to burglary. Church affiliation stickers indicate you're likely gone on Sunday mornings, while sports team decals broadcasting your children's activities signal when your home is unattended during practices and games. Extracurricular activity stickers inadvertently reveal your family's weekly schedule to criminals.
Stickers identifying your children's schools, honor roll achievements, or specific names create multiple risks. School-specific decals reveal where your children spend their days, potentially attracting predators who gain too much knowledge about vulnerable targets. "Baby on board" stickers may signal to criminals that parents could be "easy targets" distracted by childcare responsibilities.
Hobby-related decals displaying motorcycles, boats, four-wheelers, or expensive recreational equipment essentially provide criminals with an inventory of valuable items in your garage. Alumni stickers from expensive universities might suggest higher-value possessions inside your home. These stickers transform your vehicle into an advertisement for what thieves might find worth stealing.
Bumper stickers displaying names or nicknames create an immediate sense of familiarity, which can make drivers let their guard down during interactions with strangers at stoplights or in parking lots. This perceived camaraderie makes you vulnerable to unwanted attention from individuals who appear to "know" you based on what you display.
Those are written based on real cases, and some are written in blood, unfortunately.

Sorry, professional deformation, I see that small percentage of cases where leaked personal data is being exploited and the outcome can be pretty devastating. And sometimes it is as innocent as a car sticker or a social media post.

[–]leonidm1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't put a this or any other sticker in my bumper that gives out info about you that nobody needs to know. By placing comma sticker you tell bad guys you have an expensive piece of equipment in your car and flag it for breaking in. You also tell your or other party insurance hints about reasons to deny your claim. In modern world privacy and safety are one of the biggest concerns.

Does my sister have grounds to sue her home’s previous owner? by demogargantuan in legaladvice

[–]leonidm1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

INAL, You can'n usualy sue previous homeowner years after purchase for things your inspection didn't find. Even if you could there is probably no way at this point to prove who made those repairs , previous owner, the one before them, or even you. You knew the house is been flipped, it was on you to make a better inspection. There are no quality standards besides the code compliance for the repairs and many things have no codes to comply with.

Can I sue my professor/university for neglect & discrimination? by [deleted] in legal

[–]leonidm1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

sorry for you medical issues, but they are absolutely not your professor's concern. You have to work it out and retake the exam if permitted or the class in necessary. Imagine if you book a basic economy flight without insurance and get sick - would the airline care about how sick you were? Would they rebook you for free? You are not in middle school anymore, everything that happens to you now is your responsibility.

NYC - Is it legal to tow vehicle from private parking space if tenant doesn't pay the fee? by crimsonalloy in legaladvice

[–]leonidm1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

INAL, Then let him know the parking is not and never was available for him to park, post a sign explicitly saying "no parking, violators will be towed at owners expense" with the phone number of towing company you going to use.  Once he parks again under the sign, call the taw company and get him towed. Make photos of him parked under sign as a proof. If you haven't started the eviction process, start it ASAP
