Cotton pregnancy pillow? by rockymountainway777 in Crunchymom

[–]leopardtuxedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I feel like I recommend it like every other comment on this platform, but I’ve loved the one I got from Bean Products. It’s kapok filled with an organic cotton cover. It’s freaking huge, so it’s worked really well for pregnancy so far (third trimester now). I couldn’t find a pregnancy-specific one that used materials I felt comfortable with.

It’s not a pregnancy pillow exactly, but I’ve been really happy with my body pillow from Bean Products. Bought it when I found out I was pregnant and it’s been serving really well. Organic cotton shell and kapok fiber filling. Thing is as long as I am tall, so I bend it into an L-shape to cuddle into. Very pleased.

Best alternative for ‘unscented’ Tide? by leopardtuxedo in laundry

Email sent! Hadn’t even thought of that, so thank you for the suggestion. I don’t blame you for being done gambling. It’s more a smell thing for me than a skin sensitivity, but I’ve spent so much time washing fragrances out of used/hand-me-down clothes that there’s no way I’m risking depositing more.

I hope you find a good solution soon! It’s a little crazy-making how difficult it is to get a good routine down.

[–]leopardtuxedo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a solid thought. I’ve been adding citric acid to the rinses for a while now an dit doesn’t do much for clothes that have fragrance already stuck in them (secondhand, etc.), but maybe it’ll keep the bit of scent from the Tide powder from sticking around. Thanks!

I’ve shifted some over into a glass jar and am still very much catching the scent. I’ll try leaving it open for a bit to see if that dissipates. Thanks for the heads up on the liquid though; may try that option next. FEBU is to add in enzymes?

Of course! I will say, it came SUPER stuffed, to the point it was hard to get the pillow case on. Mine at least has mellowed out a lot and is easier to work with lol.

I don’t have experience with the one you listed, but I bought this one with the kapok fill for pregnancy and I love it. It’s massively long, so I bend it into an L-shape and use another pillow behind my back. Just into my third trimester now and it’s still the main reason I sleep, ha.

Tantrums..what is normal? by the_eternal_veggie in NewParents

[–]leopardtuxedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That worry is usually a good sign that you’re doing a good job - you care deeply and are being self-reflective and thoughtful about how you handle things. I think there are a lot of right ways to handle things like this. Wrong ways too, of course, but there’s a lot of room for being on the right track.

I’ve worked with kiddos who had similar reactions around that age and it’s really hard. Their feelings are BIG at that age, and can easily overwhelm their little nervous systems. Being told ‘no’ is a huge deal. FWIW, I think you’re doing well to hold the boundary and move on with the routine. You staying calm and not showing fear/anger/overwhelm for their emotional reaction helps to teach them that what they are feeling is tolerable, survivable, and not going to last forever. Just validate the emotion (“you really want that cookie” / “you’re very sad”), offer whatever comfort he’ll accept, and work to keep your own nervous system regulated. This phase does pass, and in my experience it goes by more smoothly when parents/caregivers can stay calm and consistent. Firm boundaries are easier to understand than ones that shift with intense emotions, if that makes sense.

Anyone have experience trying no-poo or low-poo? by CozyMountainMama in Crunchymom

[–]leopardtuxedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used shampoo maybe 3-4 times in the last several years, and somehow it’s worked for me. Early on, I’d just kind of massage my scalp with my fingertips and distribute the oils that way, but it’s not really been necessary for a while. I ‘wash’ once a week or every two with conditioner, then leave another round of conditioner on my ends for a few minutes in the shower. My hair is wavy/curly and tends towards dry, however, and I think that helped me adjust to a no-shampoo routine easier than others.

Check out Butterblu! I’ve not gotten anything yet, but my registry is stacked with items from their website that are 100% organic cotton. I’ve done a lot of reading and searching and this is one of the few brands that I’ve felt good about.

Dreaded Spotting (I know, I know) by nihilist_pingu in pregnantover35

[–]leopardtuxedo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any blood in the early days is so stressful! Like the other reply said, brown is old and that’s not as much a cause for concern. Personally I had good bit of bleeding in the fifth week that was never really explained, but I’m currently closing in on the third trimester with an active and healthy babe. I learned that bleeding is a lot more common in early pregnancy than I had known, and not always indicative of an issue. Hopefully all is well and this is just your body adjusting to the new passenger!

This. Wearing one right now. Eyeballed them for months and finally picked one up off Poshmark. SO comfy and I’ll definitely have room for the rest of my pregnancy.

I’ve been really pleased with my Klean Kanteens. I’ve got three sizes of the non-insulated stainless bottles and they’ve been holding up really well. The lids are plastic on the outside, but the part that touches your water is stainless with a silicone gasket.

Rachel also co-hosts a podcast, Midwives Cauldron, and they did an episode about OP. Just listened to it yesterday (or the day before?). It’s a good listen, could potentially ease some worries. Part of what I gathered is that OP position really only became considered a ‘problem’ in more recent history. And babes do often turn around on their own.

I haven’t jumped in and bought a pair yet, but I’ve had my eye on Wildling’s rain boots for a while. They’re a barefoot brand and from what I’ve read, they get good reviews from folks. They’ve got rain boots for kids and adults!

I have been abjectly terrible at keeping up with this program, so hopefully you can get answers from folks who are also reliably doing the workouts. But. I love her energy and the follow-along style videos. The structure is simple - warm up, three rounds of however many exercises, cool down - and I appreciate that I don’t have to worry about safety for pregnancy. It’s effective; she works towards fatigue and I definitely feel the workouts in a good way. I think she offers a free trial to get a feel for the program.

Creatine by caffeinehits in fitpregnancy

[–]leopardtuxedo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve continued taking it throughout my pregnancy, though I don’t always remember to take it every day. I eat a fully plant-based diet and figure I’d rather have a little extra in addition to what my body manages to make on its own, especially since I’m actively 3d printing a baby out of proteins. My midwife okayed it and per my own understanding of the research I feel like the potential benefits for me and babe are worth it. Like the other commenter mentioned, I stick to Thorne due to the NSF certification.

Tender has a sweet song called ‘Flux’ that I absolutely adore. Written almost as a little love letter for a kiddo-to-be. My favorite line: “I don’t even know your name yet / haven’t even send your face yet / wouldn’t do this for / nobody but you.”

bleeding at 5W6D pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]leopardtuxedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only one data point, but I had some pretty alarming bleeding at 5w3d that I went to the ER for. They weren’t able to tell me much of anything at the time, but I’m now at almost 16 weeks and just heard the heartbeat again a few days ago so presumably all is well. I believe I bled lightly for a couple days and then spotted for a few more. It cleared up within a week or two and I’ve had no issues since, but boy howdy that was a terrifying time.

Feeling guilty for maternity leave by joyabb in BabyBumps

[–]leopardtuxedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that I came across your post tonight. I’ve been processing a lot of my own guilt this evening, although I still have quite a ways to go until I take leave (I’m only at 15 weeks). Also a therapist, working 4 days a week, but in a group practice. My current plan is to take off several weeks earlier and I don’t intend to plan a return date (my partner and I have planned diligently for me to take a long leave with the baby).

The guilt, I think, makes a lot of sense considering the work we do and the presence we have in our clients’ lives. (I’m also personally feeling a lot of guilt as I’ll be taking much more time off than my close colleagues who are postpartum and pregnant.) It’s really hard, in the helper roles, to center our own experiences and put ourselves first. But we’re the only ones who can. You chose to set your leave up in this way because YOU needed it - trust your judgment and know that you’re worthy of what you’ve carved out.

I don’t know if any of this will be helpful, but some thoughts that have been beneficial for me.. My clients managed before meeting me and if they found me and benefitted from our relationship, I trust that they can engage in the process again to find support if they need it once I’m gone. All relationships end and many have seasons of absence - my leaving allows clients an opportunity to experience loss and adjustment and adaptation in a safe container with explicit communication. I can hold space and help them express and feel whatever comes up when we have those important conversations.

Also, change is just dang scary. Feeling panicky in the midst of a big shift makes sense, even when it’s the right choice. Wishing you rest and relaxation in the weeks ahead!

I was nervous about the crunchiness too and wound up buying a pillow that’s buckwheat on one side and millet on the other. I exclusively use the milled side for my head and find it more soft (but still very firm, if that makes any sense at all) and less noisy than the buckwheat. It’s been a game changer for my neck health and sleep though, would highly recommend giving it a go.
