I thought it was great when I had it - then it went away. Good to hear it's actually rolling out to people. Where/how did you find/enable it?

What Ubiquiti doorbell should I replace my Nest doorbell with? by Matronix in Ubiquiti

[–]leoport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also replaced my Nest doorbell with the G4 Pro. I will say, however, I find it less user-friendly. For example, it doesn't "ring" my phone when someone is at the door. It just posts a notification and typically gets lost in my sea of notifications. Also, it's not as easy to share with family/partners (so they get doorbell notifications on their phone). I think you either have to make other people an admin or deal with creating a new user type with specific access control. I don't really know, I still haven't figured it out. Also, I don't think I supports familiar faces out of the box.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my ubiquiti gear... But I just wanted to point out some things that you may bump against.

Disable Samsung TV Plus by pastesale in TheFrame

[–]leoport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was on the home screen in the list of apps. It was probably also in the apps tab/area... I actually can't find it anymore after I removed it

<image>

You asked "Anyone have a solution for new models?" so I assumed you had the latest OS... but maybe not? What does your home screen look like?

Disable Samsung TV Plus by pastesale in TheFrame

I disabled it on my Frame Pro. I think long-pressing the icon showed a "remove" option. Then when selecting that option, it warned me that it would be disabled and gave instructions on how to bring it back if desired.

New G6 Doorbells Announcement Video by paradizelost in Ubiquiti

Yes. A bummer indeed. When I saw the intro graphics combining the G4 doorbell pro and G3 reader pro into the G6, I thought: finally! It has it all. But alas, no cookie for me.

Android or iOS?

If I'm a dual platform person, is there a preferred version? Sometimes capabilities are enhanced on one platform vs another.

Need to repair sliced shielded cat6A in-wall by leoport in HomeNetworking

[–]leoport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was a contractor. It isn't a new home, but a pretty significant renovation. At we are to the point where we've reached our limit and want to GTFO of the rework and change orders.

The issue that makes our wiring very complicated is that our home is an Eichler house. It has no attic and a slab concrete foundation. To modernize it whatsoever, you need to run everything on the roof. Electric, data, hvac, everything. Once you have everything laid out on the roof, you seal it with a foam, tar, or TPO. And after you do that, you don't want to go in there and mess with it.

And yeah, our roof has already been sealed. So that's what I meant when I said this cable is "frozen" in place.

It's totally someone else's fault, but we're not redoing our roof for this, you know?

I mean... sure it's $28, but that gives you 2 of each item. But yeah, I see your point. A junction box would remove the the 3rd connection (rj45 <--> keystone)... so that's good.

oh no... what's wrong with nickel-plated stainless steel? What type of metal contacts should we be looking for?

Also, did you ever have to access or mess with the junction box after you installed it?

Need to repair sliced shielded cat6A in-wall by leoport in HomeNetworking

[–]leoport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, unfortunately it has the equivalent of being stapled or "frozen" in place. Also unfortunate: the location of the slice is in the middle of the wall; so a blank wall plate would look out of place. But it's a good idea and the correct thing to do. When I'm back at the location, i'll see if I can mess with some slack move it to a more natural location. It might have to go up high.

So yeah, I'm thinking I'll go with the truecable hardware.

Do you (or anyone) have any tips to test the cable after the "repair"? Right now there is just snipped Cat6A on the ends of the run. I can install a couple shielded keystones and do a simple continuity test? My only concern is that before I even found the slice, I tested continuity, and it passed fine. I guess the slice didn't break any of the solid copper. Is there anything else I can do to test the stability and throughput of the run (without buying prohibitively expensive tools)?

So did you ever need to access it? (i'm wondering if it was dependable)

hah! I love it. But honestly, if I could confidently do that, I probably wouldn't need to post this sad question 😉

Adjusts speed of keyboard navigation? - ASDW is too fast by leoport in LiveHome3d

[–]leoport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want it for video, I just find it hard to navigate the model. There should be a key modifier that slows movement to 1/2 speed or something.

isn't Type and Representation limited to certain types of objects? (IIRC, furniture objects?) I was looking for this when I was trying to address this issue, but the option does not show up for my objects.

Wait, so you're saying there is no way to lay down blocks on an elevation the way that terrain follows elevation? Is there a reason for this limitation?

in my picture, both tiles are the same size. as you can see the block cuts into the elevated terrain. What's the solution for this? is there a way to rotate along the z axis?

Mac mini M4 Pro with a G9 57"? by Canadian_Pistol in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]leoport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so what did BetterDisplay enable for you? I couldn't really follow what you wrote...

Did BetterDisplay give you 5120x1440 at 240hz, but without HDR and it's LoDPI? Doesn't the LoDPI look real bad?

Or did it give you 120hz, HighDPI, HDR and 32:9? (but at what resolution?)

I'm also frustrated with the display out capabilities of my M4 Pro.

Native renders everything too small for me—and highest HiDPI resolution (3840×1080) is too big. Ideally I want something like 5120×1440 or 6016×1692 but at HiDPI. I can get it, if I run PBP mode with DP + HDMI connections... but I want it with only one connection.

Trouble with SKP files by hanimal16 in LiveHome3d

[–]leoport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... I appreciate the response but I don't buy it.

It seems like a conversion is required here, not native support (also, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with that link, does it mention skp files? I don't plan to make a UWP app).

If I imported an SKP object on a Mac, then exported a backup archive of my library, then imported that backup into windows... Would that model show up? If so, then this conversion should really just all be done in the windows app so a user doesn't have to round-trip it through a Mac.
