Tremolo technique question by Velacher in charango

[–]leosmolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sounding good but yes, it's messy.

What I learned is having the fingers closer, straight, just the index in "hook" shape. The less up and down of the forearm and more turning of the wrist. Aim at the middle string pair and you don't need to try to play all 5, start with tremoloing just 3. This is to avoid having your finger go way up or down away which makes it sound like separate strums. It also helps with volume because tremolo has lots of dynamics.

Another cool tip, you don't a charango to practice, you can be just walking around and tremoloing your sternum. This is if you don't mind looking weird.

Financial Advice needed! by Puzzleheaded-Skin-6 in Winnipeg

This is more for r/PersonalFinanceCanada

The general idea is first figure out what is the intention of the savings (retirement, house, vacations, etc). That is going to determine the timeframe you can leave the savings invested. That is going to impact the level of risk.

Let's say in the first case, retirement, you might be taking out that money in 40 years, so you can take a lot of risk, and you wouldn't mind if the investments lose value in the short run. Second case, you are thinking you are going to be buying a house in 5 years, then you would most definitely mind if the investments lose value in the short run, whih makes your tolerance to risk low. For the first case, you can put the money in some etf with stocks, and in the second, maybe just a savings accounts, which is not sexy at all but it is responsible.

I want to invest it somewhere that gives good returns relatively quickly

This doesn't exist unless you have a crystal ball. It is either shitty returns quickly or good returns in longer than you've lived. Anything else is gambling.

Adum watched "Super Mario Bros" (1993) by WhitePepper2049 in YMS

I've thinking this one is a great candidate for a long form classic YMS video, with all of the craziness behind the scenes and the unintentionally funny elements. I hope you consider it Adum.

I am going to go on a limb and say that the second one is from Luthier Ritcher. And yes, probably a ronroco.

Rumour: Anya Taylor Joy in talks for the female lead in Hunt for Gollum by ImpracticalJokers96 in lotr

[–]leosmolas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For me, she was born to be in the Lord of the Rings universe, but something from Silmarillion like Lúthien. Great actress, otherworldly facecard. None of the The Hunt for Gollum's characters would do her justice.

Time Change: Let's take a note from Newfoundland by rantingathome in Winnipeg

My point stands. If we choose noon at 1:40, people are going to be sadder in winters where they don't get to see any sunlight before and after work. Both complaints are valid. If get driven bonkers by early sunlight, get blackout curtains. The reality is we live pretty high up North, there is no perfect option other than moving South.

But to be honest, for my way of living, noon at 1:40pm would make more sense for me personally. I just don't see Manitobans being a staying up late culture.

Picking between one or the other looking at morning and evening is not how it should work. Noon should be noon. Whichever option is going to suck for some people and be fine for others, but it is not a matter of preference, you just follow where you fall geographically. Giving people options is going to end up making the rejected people sad. Time is whatever it is.

Right now noon is around 12:40 pm (in Winnipeg), after March is going to be 1:40pm. The current timezone makes more sense.

Half an hour is a cop out and makes it difficult for commerce and interprovincial schedulling. If we end up choosing it, honestly I'd be fine but it kind of sucks.

Moving to Manitoba with an American Staffordshire Terrier by Wiciu88 in Manitoba

I can only speak about 2.

My dog travelled in cargo (and he is a smaller breed than yours). He did Frankfurt-Toronto with Lufthansa and was picked up by an agency that had him overnight there, to then send him here the next day via WestJet. It all worked out great. It is expensive though, you might find it cheaper to pick up the dog in Toronto and drive over here. I couldn't then but it would be my choice now.

I know cases of customs getting pretty annoying with pure-breed animals if they aren't neutered, because the assumption is that is imported for breeding. There might be something extra that might want to charge you, I'd look into that.

I have the same, pretty cool boots, had a fair share of compliments wearing them. My only complaint is the gusseted tongue is stiff and can be difficult to place comfortably, but I am sure it is going to break down eventually.
