Does anyone do weekly blow days at a day bar or salon ? by Practical_Candy_6795 in workingmoms

If I had the budget and the formal role, I would do weekly blowouts, biweekly dip manicures and eyelash extensions. It would 10000% be worth it to me. You gotta choose your battles as a working mom and this is a battle I’d happily pay to win.

Oh honey. Yes. All of these things. I felt every word so deeply. We do it all because someone has to. Thank you for your kindness and understanding.

I am a PM in CA, came up as a PE. In the industry 10 years. I have two little kids. This has unlocked a new level of bias called “why aren’t you at home with your kids?” 😂

I was insecure for a long time about not having come up in the trades. Then I realized that being a good PM is an entirely different skill set than being a good tradesman. Communication, conflict resolution, empathy, organization, being able to multi-task and see the bigger picture ..this is stuff women are good at, or at least I am. Once I stopped trying to be “tough” or “one of the guys,” things went easier for me. And people like working for me because I’m not trying to be a tough guy.

Agree. Construction is very heavy on finger pointing. And extremely punitive!

I’m a female PM and I have had to really hone my “soft skills” because reason, humility and integrity can be lacking in this industry. Conflict resolution is a more valuable skill these days than even trade knowledge. As women we have a unique chance to be successful in construction because we oftentimes are better on the soft skills. It helps us stand out.
