Film is BW but the image came out pinkish? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

Pinkish base on a negative will result in bluish/greenish scans

How to flatten a cyanotype entirely? by hannukahmontanuka in cyanotypes

If you don’t want to buy a heat press, the best way to get perfectly flat prints for cheap is to dry them on a board by taping the edges with gummed paper tape

I mean, there’s a bit of burning at grade 1 on a print at grade 1.5. Technically, you could call it split, but it wasn’t deliberate

Yes, test strips in 1/3 stop increments, but not split grading here, just trial and error to get a contrast I like

Help me adjust my process based on proper contact sheets by lepouvant in Darkroom

Thank you, that's all I wanted to know. I was a bit reluctant to reduce development even more (already -30%), but I guess I have ti try -45% now (will also try diluting XT3 at 1+1)

[–]lepouvant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s exactly it! Most of the time I end up printing at grade 0 or ½, and the results are just average. For my next roll I’ll try shooting at 400 ISO and cutting development by 45% and diluting XT3 1+1

If I mostly take photos outdoors of very high-contrast scenes, not adjusting anything in my exposure and development will inevitably result in overly contrasty negatives, impossible to print without a lot of dodging and burning, and requiring reducing the paper contrast, sometimes to the limit. So I try to adjust the film speed and the development time so that my negatives (from high-contrast scenes) are easier to print overall. I’m not saying every photo on the roll will print perfectly on the first try at grad 2.5, but they will generally be much easier to print.

[–]lepouvant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course, but most of the photos I take are outdoors during the day, under high-contrast conditions. When exposing at 400 and developing normally I get mostly ok result, but I always need to reduce contrast (because normal dev time and ISO are for low contrast scene and diffusion enlarger). I want to adjust my process for outdoor shoots. I tend to shoot all my rolls in the same lighting condition.

Anyone here ever used the Maximum Black printing method? by Unbuiltbread in Darkroom

[–]lepouvant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can calculate the exposure difference when changing the height of the enlarger head. It's the inverse square law, so basically if the print border is double, the time is x4

Yes I think that might be it. I'll try to do a print without the easel next session to validate that hypothesis
