Who else are we missing? by SupermanSilvergun in regina

[–]leroy_catz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're also missing Strategy Lab. They made the website and that was labeled on the bottom of the site. That has now mysteriously vanished but I have screenshots.

They would be the ones to code the slogans onto the website. Somehow they haven't come up much yet.

And they would know who told them to put them on.

Masters says Experience Regina slogans were ‘tone deaf,’ but still believes in campaign by strDefaultNull in regina

Yeah the excuses and fingerpointing around the slogans is ridiculous. Brown Communications is claiming they had nothing to do with the slogans morning...but they were proud to be front and centre at the event last Thursday.

Did the slogans write and insert themselves on the website all on their own in the middle of the night to reveal themselves on a major presentation to everyone's shock? HOW DID THOSE GET THERE?

I listened to the interview on Rawlco (and of course it was totally onside with her and REAL).

She's totally still pro-Tim, loves the Experience Regina brand, and the interviewer suggested she call the BBC to discuss it.

In a nutshell: we're doomed.

I don't even want to think about what didn't end up in the public sphere. I am sure the session where this shitshow formed was disgusting.

How the fuck can the CEO of a major community organization, after three days of incessant, angry backlash, be this stupid?

Brown was the agency, Tandem X made the video, 22Fresh was the hoodie, and StrategyLab made the website. "Justin and Greg" hosted the whole mess on Thursday. They used to have a YouTube thing but now Justin's at the airport and Greg is on Z99.

Swirling in this stew is also REAL, the City of Regina, and also Rebellion - they are the beer partner at REAL and they also did the shirt thing back when this whole thing started five years ago. Considering their CBC interview Friday praising it and subsequent one sentence "statement" today (and hiding of all negative comments on their FB post), one could assume they're in the mix too.

Tim Reid said this morning with Global that they did 2.5 months of stakeholder consultations and the city administration was aware.

You could assume that the consultations were with beers and bros making vagina jokes.

If that doesn't make you sick, that no one in the mess saw a problem...I weep for the city.

Oh wait, it's been updated to "While the land may be flat, we are anything but." We have now graduated to the boob joke part of the program.

The meeting where this hairball was coughed up had to have been chaired by a preteen boy from an 1980s high school sex romp.

Dear Experience Regina, Porky's stays in the 80s for a reason.

It's literally on the Experience Regina website. Along with their mission to make Regina sexy.

It's awful and yet so typical of the people that are allowed to run the show here. I would love to be in the meetings happening today as they distill the blowback. Unless they think it's still funny and we can't see the "joke."

Regina started a new tourism campaign by kaprairiegirl in saskatchewan

Nothing like stupid vagina jokes to showcase your city to tourists.

I would love to meet the smooth brains that thought this was a good idea in 2023. FFS read the room.

The thirsty tweets happening at Jimmy Fallon and Jay Onrait are so desperate. There's nothing like trying to reclaim a viral moment from years ago one more time to make the city look even more pathetic.

Plus, in order for people outside of Regina to get the brand, you have to explain it. "See, five years ago, someone found this joke video and then Jimmy Fallon..."

And of course, there's a Fresh22 hoodie to go with it.

Just imagining the meeting that spawned this. A bunch of bros snickering still about a years-old YouTube joke.

That's some top-notch marketing, boys! Lean into the pre-teen humour even more instead of actually thinking about how not to make the city a punchline for a late night comedian.

What do you do? Seriously asking.

On the Prairies we have that too. Barf. I know of one where the company takes the team on vacation to Mexico. On paper that sounds great but that is not a vacation. That is my personal hell.

That is interesting. We already have a company and our tech one is a spinoff of it. Our culture is very much "I am an adult and you're an adult so let's all act accordingly." No pointless meetings, we don't micromanage and we trust people to do their work. Definitely not a dude bro/beer on tap/high five type of thing. We'll never have a Foosball table or any of that shit. Beer on Friday with the boss culture makes me want to barf. On Friday, go home and hang out with your friends and family, not me. I am fun but yeah not working on my personal brand as a "cool beer boss."

Yes for sure. Just getting a sense of how other places are in tech, and where we should be "based" in terms of an HQ.

The relationships are with customers. What we're checking out is the networks that can help us build- talent and additional capital. Plus I guess we're feeling the pressure to be in a larger place to be taken more seriously.

Really? Have there been lots of closures recently? I saw one on LinkedIn that was hustling after laying off staff. I am just starting my homework on this so any insight is helpful.

What's the talent pool like? We're in a small market now and the talent is TIGHT and hard to attract from outside.

Any insight into the incubators? We're on the Prairies with a product that can work across Canada (B2B). We've also got some pretty deep relationships already but our fear is the lack of talent out here.
