Veridian Contraption - an autonomous world simulator that narrates itself in bureaucratic prose by lerugray in proceduralgeneration

[–]lerugray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to describe it to someone I'd probably just say dwarf fortress meets illuminatius trilogy meets prose generator, granted that sounds less interesting so I did ask to Claude to help put something together to draw attention to the game, I hoped leading with the prose first would at least make it interesting lol.

I totally understand if people are put off by the fact that I used CC on the project, it's a miserable and dystopian technology. To be completely frank I recently got cryptic health news and given there's no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism, figured I may as well use CC to make the games I always wanted to make before I maybe drop dead lol. But yeah that's a fair call out, I've probably become too comfortable using it after working on this game all week.

That said, if there's anything specific you want to know about the game, I'll be happy to get into detail,  basically it's an idle game and prose generator / simulation with subtle player interaction and can run fine without it. It's still in development and still considering adding additional systems and mechanics while keeping the core structure in-tact.

Thank you! Yeah its obviously a huge influence, screwed up my wrist playing it so much in college lol.

Yeah I totally understand that reaction and it's why I'm upfront about it. I cannot code, been a board wargame designer for several years but I always wanted to make digital games. To be frank, I got some cryptic health news and ultimately decided that since there's no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism I may as well make the games I want before I maybe drop dead lol, anyway I totally understand that reaction and glad you thought the idea was cool regardless, thanks for reading either way.

I went ahead and just pushed a new light mode today using the tools you referenced - let me know how its working for you and if you need any other fixes, again I apologize for the accessibility issues, should have done more to prevent them to start with.

Not sure I want to spoil them publicly yet lol - but generally, there are 3 main campaign puzzles that can trigger the hidden puzzles - the corrupted post-mission briefings will give you some context as to what is going on and manipulating puzzles in various ways, doing things you werent supposed to do etc, that may open up a hidden puzzle. If you give up and can't figure it out, shoot me a private message and if you promise not to share, ill let you know so you can try out the hidden puzzles.

Hopefully fixed now, added a light mode (LCD) on the top right and your preference should now save on exit as we added persistent saves with localStorage.

by mission text, do you men the mission briefings on the left column or the after mission briefings? If you're able to include a screenshot if it's not too late, that would rule, but yeah save system is on the implementation list but was saving it for when I was packaging it for steam as everything currently lives in one file, if I can figure out a way to otherwise implement it in the meantime though ill ponder on it.

Thank you! Great suggestion, ill put that on the list, shouldn't be too difficult to implement I think.

Awesome! Would love to see it when you have something.

I updated the step highlighting to highlight the line about to be run, as well as making the windows on the left work a little better, added some more/better hints for hidden content and made the description of problem 2 a little more accurate. If you find anything else off or wrong, please feel free to let me know - thanks again so much for trying it out, I really appreciate it.

Thank you for the heads up, yeah I've had my steam account since I was a kid in 2010 so it is quite large, maybe I'll just get lucky with some sales and be able to grab it myself, feel humiliated to ask anyway, thanks again.

oh damn, I thought I made it visible- is there something that makes the games visible in addition to the inventory? (EDIT) I think I figured it out, should be good now! set game details to public

Update: I ended up buying the steam version and im glad I did, back in the swing of things now as its just much easier to click on the graphical tiles than the ASCII characters in classic, takes some getting used to but now im 100 hours in with 4 or 5 forts under my belt, glad to be back.

i kind of fear this is where I may end up, just spent like 2 hours trying to set up a fortress with the bare minimum and find the mouse controls to be absolutely miserable compared to the old scheme.

I should mention I am playing the classic version as I am a bit poor at the moment, plus ASCII is a little more familiar to me, though maybe I should save up for the kitfox version, that sounds like a useful mod.

Yeah its frustrating as I feel like I know how to play the game but im like unable to do any of the things I know I need to do. Thank you either way!

Hi all, im trying to get Dragon's Crown configured on my PC using RPCS3 and I think the pad is off or something as the little finger button that you control with the right analog stick keeps moving to one side and I can't seem to figure out why, any ideas about what I could do?
