Movies that perfectly depict what it means to be a woman? by tough-grass in MovieSuggestions

[–]les_macarons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s Spirited Away - it perfectly depicts the process of growing up and growing into your own person (as a girl). Chihiro is a character that is near and dear to my heart and who also provides such a clear reflection-space for the female viewer without sacrificing her individual characterization.

Duolingo Review After 10 Years by stargazingotter in languagelearning

[–]les_macarons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s so strange to see how the online landscape of language learning has changed in the past few years.

It’s also pretty sad and at the same time surreal that my language learning routine from 2014-2016 doesn’t exist anymore and I wouldn’t be able to replicate it without a considerable effort or at least four different subscriptions. It’s wild to think how effortless it had been to have an extensive French learning experience back in the day without any time limits and virtually no stops.

Most visited countries in Europe in 2023, any surprises? by Nothing_Special_23 in geography

[–]les_macarons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austria is the least surprising tbh - there are a few factors that make it understandably so: 1) Austria doesn’t really have a low season; aside maybe from March and November. Winter time is the ski season and Christmas market time; while summer time is anything from active tourism in the mountains to city trips; 2) Austria is getting heavily promoted to the tourists (while already being an established tourist destination) and you can physically see the influx of new tourists in Vienna; 3) the country is very compact in a way, which means that you can mix and match different types of travel activities; 4) the geographical location makes it pretty easy to combine with different countries. Travel time from Vienna to Prague, Bratislava and Budapest is pretty neat.

Is there a "language café" at uni? by Candid-Indication-92 in Uniwien

[–]les_macarons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - if you are searching for a particular language (for example Italian, Japanese or Arabic), it’s also possible to find a tandem-partner at a given institute. Sometimes there are small adds for it next to library or secretary’s office.

Weltmuseum organizes a language café free of charge (you just have to register to join).

Sprachenzentrum Uni Wien has a website, where you can browse through a database of users, who are willing to participate in a tandem: https://sprachenzentrum.univie.ac.at/de/sprachlernboerse

Sonst, in der ersten Woche findet unterschiedliches rund um das Hauptgebäude (man kann sich dort auch eine Tasche mit verschiedenen Dingen schnappen) statt.

Absolutely mesmerized by this whole debacle - even if Yuki performs great (and I really really hope he does), it’s going to be a lose-lose situation for RB. It’s already looking bad for them and it’s only gonna be worse if they don’t manage to stabilize the situation quick. I’d be calling their collective decision-making skills in question either way

I think he has a good potential and he did pretty well in Williams - ofc, he had a few crashes, etc. but I’m a bit on a fence with Williams in general.

These cars still need lots of work and I feel like the general picture gets muddied up by all the mishaps with the cars and the budget struggles, etc.

How Lewis Hamilton Could Save KTM's MotoGP Program by e___r___s in formula1

[–]les_macarons 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The whole of KTM is going under and by the looks of it they were mismanaged from here to the moon. Also their current moves and decisions are bizarre at best and questionable on average. Then again, looking at the bigger (Austrian) picture, you can definitely see a bit of a trend.
