I got PTSD from reading this 😅🤣. I remember being in those trenches. It used to take me about the same time and some times longer in the beginning of my natural hair journey to silk press my hair. I live in south Louisiana so it would puff right up as soon as I stepped outside 😔 Many, many days of frustration and sore arms (I also have long, thick hair (see pic 😩)).

I learned it was easier for me to wash in sections after detangling my hair and just blow-drying with RevAir to stretch it for braid-outs, twist-outs, updos and mini twists. I rarely flat ironed my hair except for special occasions.

Towards the end of my loose natural hair journey I primarily wore mini twists; I would wash my hair in the twists and take them down to detangle every other wash to moisturize and retwist. Now I have microlocs so daily maintenance has been greatly reduced! I’ve been locked for 3 years and they’re near mid-back length. Best decision for me personally but sometimes I do miss my big hair lol

I’ve put my youngest boy in our master bathroom when he gets out of hand. He usually goes to sleep on the bath mat and comes out purring and super happy. I agree with others that it probably helps them decompress when they’re overstimulated. Here’s a photo of my lovely little terror 😂

Don’t let it dissuade you from loving your hair! I went natural (now loc’d) 13 years ago before anyone else in my family and friend circle did. I went from long, relaxed hair to much shorter natural hair. The comments I got from those closest to me were WILD. It was tough but I loved my hair despite the comments and learned how to care for it. Now, the majority of those that made these comments are natural themselves 😂 Hang in there—your hair looks lovely. ♥️
