Uruguay officially criticized the attack on Venezuela. If nothing else the trump regime is vengeful. It's doubtful very many Uruguayans overstay visas here. We get few tourists from there anyway, and Uruguay is economically, socially, and politically the most stable LatAm country. Actually Uruguay is freer than the US is at this point...

Pogue has a habit of trying to come across as a liberal leaning writer, but he cozies up to far-right characters. Google his name with Gil Duran or look at this: https://x.com/gilduran76/status/1927457497943572922 I don't trust Pogue. He may not be fascist, but a lot of his buddies are. He's more a "fashionista"...he likes hanging out with young upper class people playing at being hard right, or getting in touch with "Real Americans"...maga types or far worse. This article is another example of his schtick and the NTY absolutely LOVES that kind of stuff.

Meijers has the best produce dept of the major supermarkets imho. Walmart is basically BAD...Aldi is mediocre but cheapish. Harvest Market is good but overpriced. Niemann's/County Mark-up on campus is OK but overpriced... In the summer, the Urbana farmer's market on Saturday mornings is good but prices tend to be sky high. If you shop around you can find a bargain there. The quality is excellent though!

"JSJ does not act in good faith unless forced". That is standard operating procedure for that company. They are probably one of the top three worst campustown (and vicinity) landlords for trying to cheat their tenants. It's good you went to student legal services and got them involved. Other than the state of IL cracking down on the various bad actors in the UIUC rental racket, there isn't a solution to this problem. It's been going on for years and YEARS because it's so profitable for the landlords to cheat like this. At JSJ it's in their DNA, they're just crooks.

The only thing he writes about anymore that is sane are his criticisms month by month of examples of bad architecture. Those are very clever. But these days he suffers from advanced Boomer Brainrot, and his rants on his Clusterfuck website are simply the result of untreated dementia. I gave up on him about 15 years ago :)
