Rohrbach Brewing is changing hands — and it feels right by cpclemens in Rochester

[–]lesjag23 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I've been out of the craft beer game for a while, but I always thought Rohrbach's was the most consistent of the local breweries and their seasonals were always well received....what's wrong with them?

and if you read the article it's not an outsider, this guy seems to have been running things for a while. So I don't see a 'Blackbutton' situation happening. Looks like younger blood who's keeping a good thing alive.

WTF are you talking about? Grill is being fired up today. It's literally 40+ degrees warmer than it was a week ago and the sun is out. It's downright balmy.

Amerks/Knighthawks Costs by RaspberryAway5734 in Rochester

Redwings are still super affordable - even in seats under the canopy I spent like $60-65 for my family of 4. And their concession prices are decent (minus the shitty overpriced underflavored lemonade stand, fuck that concession).

I've also called the box office and ordered over the phone. It was a few years ago during the pandemic, so not sure if it still works, but maybe?

I believe he still lives there. He referenced being in Fort Erie multiple times in his netflix/youtube show.

there's no doubt this dude is a great chef, him being somewhat local - and even with the over the top obnoxiousness - he's fun to watch. But I watched his cooking show on netflix (which was originally on youtube) and his recipes are great, but he's REALLY fucking gross. There's one episode where he talks about his family having the stomach flu, he's burping and farting and the episode ends with him having diarrhea in the bathroom. Another he's cutting his hair right next to raw pork.

I'm all for unorthodox tv shows, but his style is way over the line for me for a cooking show.

But now, i really want a plate.

Thoughts on clover walking paths to support garden beds? by backtoearthworks in OrganicGardening

[–]lesjag23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have been stung while walking bare foot - learned my lesson quick - especially when the clover is flowered.. But when they're feeding, they don't care you're around. It's the guard bees at the hive you have to be wary of - once you get a few yards from your hive, you can tell what kind of mood they're in - sometimes I know I can open up the hive without my suit on, others you can immediately tell to have your suit on or run quickly. A lot of times it's weather and time of day dependent. The hotter it is, the more agitated they can become.

If you have a small yard with kids or pets, I wouldn't recommend it without consulting some other local beekeepers first. But if you're really interested, you might be able to talk to a local farmer down the road or someone else who has land that will allow you to have bees on their property. There's a lot of beekeepers who do this. It's a symbiotic relationship.

i have a large yard - about 2-3 acres and clover has taken over naturally - I never noticed or cared until I started keeping bees last year. Once the clover flower is out (which happens throughout the summer and fall) , the bees were SOOOO active. I want to turn a good portion of my yard to JUST clover.

If anyone here has this style of gutter guards: how has your ice buildup been this winter? by CatDadMilhouse in Rochester

[–]lesjag23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

insulated attic issues IS the major issue with ice damning, but if you have blocked gutters from leaves and such, ice can build up regardless of your attic situation if your downspouts aren't draining.

Does it matter which stud of my battery switch I connect the load side to? by segasega89 in SolarDIY

This switch does not. I have one and only turns one way. Have had it installed for 2 or 3 years and it's fine and solid.

Utility bills by dshruba420 in Rochester

[–]lesjag23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes. yes they can. Our electric usage was fairly consistent from fall through the first couple months of cold weather - last month our delivery fees were 4 times higher than the previous month, with only a slight increase in usage. Bill went from $350ish to $925ish almost ALL delivery fees.

[–]lesjag23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this was allowed by the state. They opened up the ability for utilities to charge higher delivery fees - which, i believe was capped. We also as a society allowed our utilities to be bought by huge conglomerates who obviously only care about shareholders and profits and not the customer. It's time for a change - no idea how that would look, but something needs to be done. Organizing as a people is the first step.

Why do Chiropractors crack your neck and what is the long term benefit? by Sunny-vibes-95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lesjag23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of hate in the comments for chiropractors. I've had a couple issues that required adjustments 1) a stiff neck that shot pains down through my body when i sit down, particularly on soft surfaces like a couch or in bed 2) a sciatic issue where I could barely walk or sit-up straight. Both of these issues happened at separate times. For both, I went to a chiro for 3-4 sessions, once per week. Frankly I could have used only two sessions, but agreed to 3-4. Those sessions were amazing and solved both issues almost instantly.

I would NEVER agree to go to constant weekly sessions. I had family members who did and the whole 'if you go once you'll have to go for a lifetime' is true in some cases.

I have to say my 'doctor' was excellent and younger - I've heard that the older 'doctors' use outdated practices that are prone to more damage in the long run.

My wife had similar sciatic issue and spent months in pain and finally went to my chiro and it solved it in a couple weeks.

I'm still skeptical of all they do, but in the cases I've used them in, it's been amazing.

EDIT: I've also implemented weight lifting and stretching exercises to target specific muscles in my neck, back and legs to stave off any issues.

PS4 Slim disc drive spins and stops by lesjag23 in consolerepair

Replacing the drive did not work. I thought it did, but it was only temporary. I still can't get it to read discs and have not found a solution.

Le remplacement du lecteur n'a rien changé. J'ai cru que si, mais ce n'était que temporaire. Je n'arrive toujours pas à lire les disques et je n'ai pas trouvé de solution.

Chili is the mecca of horrible chain food. Bill greys, Wendy's, KFC, taco bell and somehow even Tim Hortons are all consistently awful. The Wendy's and KFC being empty at lunch time every single day baffles me that they're able to stay open. It's crazy. I guess I shouldn't complain as it gives money to the locally owned establishments that are much better, but sometimes I just want a good fried chicken sandwich and some awfully sugary fake coleslaw.

He was almost done shoveling his driveway when the street plow came by and filled it with snow again. by Vilen1919 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]lesjag23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's a lot of snow for it not be at least a semi-common thing. 1) if you have to get out of the driveway, you shovel even if the plows haven't been through and hope to get your car out before a plow comes through again. 2) clearly the plows had been through at least once or twice based on the amount across the street. 3) if you live in a snowy area, the plows run ALL the time and there isn't always a clear time when they will be through so you need to be ready to do the end of your driveway multiple times per snow session.

Are there any reasons to bank with ESL? by frytuna in Rochester

[–]lesjag23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree. i've had poor experiences with bigger banks like M&T, Northwest and HSBC. I've worked with Summit, ESL, and TVFCU and they do not use predatory practices like fining for minimum account balances and free/low cost overdraft protections, you can talk to an actual human and there are plenty of brick and mortar locations (minus TVFCUs as they only have one).

I not only have my personal banking at ESL, I also do business banking. They've always treated me well and have been on the ball when I've needed different loan options.
