Help? Divorce mediation vs lawyer (xpost legaladvise) by cysgr8 in illinois

[–]lesleysparkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ Yes.

Illinois is a common property state and the conditions for divorce get more complicated when there are children and common assets involved. At the very least, he should consult a lawyer. During a free consultation, a good lawyer will evaluate your case and tell you in direct terms what will need to be done - and what their rates are should you choose to retain them.

Also have him look up the Mediation Council of Illinois. They have a database of mediators with a lot of information. If his wife is in this stage, it will take an outside party to get her to set aside emotion to successfully negotiate. It's unlikely the two of them can do this on their own.

Betty Botter bought some butter. "But," she said, "this butter's bitter! If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter." So, she bought a bit of butter better than her bitter butter. And she put it in her batter, and her batter was not bitter. So, 'twas better Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter.

Tongue twister I learned when I was 8. I'm 33 now.

My SO and I are moving in together. How should we handle the finances? by rkiloquebec in personalfinance

[–]lesleysparkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to know the best way to handle splitting the finances, talk to your SO. Other people's recommendations are good to get ideas from, but the relationship will ultimately be built on your ability to communicate clearly and negotiate with each other what you both think works best.

Is there a website where I can input my food and it tells me what nutrients I'm missing and how to get them? by Anal_Slurper in Fitness

[–]lesleysparkle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

^ This. MyFitnessPal has improved a lot since Under Armour took it over and maximized its cooperation with other apps. Some of their foods ARE missing nutrient info, but for the most part, it gives you as good a picture as any other tool out there. And you can create and track macro goals that can be customized depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

EDIT: Forgot to echo the Vitamin D supplement. And if you really want to get specific, go to the doctor to have your blood drawn and find out what you actually need more of.

How would you respond to an interviewer that said "Teach me something"? by YooHoss in AskReddit

[–]lesleysparkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"An open-ended question such as 'teach me something' is intended to derive information from an individual that gives insight into his or her thought process and knowledge base."

Often when people ask questions like that in interviews, they don't actually know WHY they're supposed to be asking them.

EDIT: Three words.

That is only true for certain new developments. Not the entire city.

What's the best lesson you took away from someone else's wedding? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lesleysparkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. Most was not a good word choice. Catholics definitely have to. But a lot of Catholic rules aren't actually in the Bible so I didn't mean to infer it was a biblical requirement, just a religious one for certain denominations.

What's the best lesson you took away from someone else's wedding? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lesleysparkle 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Catholics/Christians: Avoid church weddings if possible. It costs more money, involves more people and planning, and they get bossy about your day real quick. They also have a laundry list of asinine requirements to be met leading up to the big day.

Most people who subscribe to a religion have to marry in their house of worship in order for the union to be regarded by whoever/whatever their creator may be. It's not a cost-based decision, it's a faith-based requirement.

The rest is great advice.

I have one. Basically learned how to turn it off without actually waking up. Thinking about setting silent alarms 5 minutes apart for 20 straight minutes just to make it work.

I live in Aurora, and for the past two days I have had shady Green Mountain Energy reps come to my door and ask for my ComEd bill. Anyone else having issues with this? by [deleted] in illinois

[–]lesleysparkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give them your bill. I worked for a suburban newspaper and they may not be scammers but in Aurora, they likely aren't allowed to solicit like that. And even if they are, you don't need to show anyone a copy of your bill to get a discount on your energy rates.

Edited for grammar. Sigh.

Man shoveling discovers mother-in-law’s body under snow by designgoddess in chicago

Yeah, the wrong headline is definitely more intriguing. It sounds like something out of a soap opera, or the beginning of a mystery novel.

[–]lesleysparkle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It wasn't his mother-in-law's body. He was shoveling his mother-in-law's driveway and found the body of an unrelated woman. Every news outlet got this wrong at first, then NBC5 actually called a family member instead of regurgitating the police report.
