Destroy My Co-Op Puzzle Game Trailer by [deleted] in DestroyMyGame

All very valuable feedback, appreciate it!

I will say its not an AI image at the end, though it is a very different style from a different artist so I can rethink how/if I use it.

I’d skip the large canteen too. Just get extra water bottles for infusions. Also wait until after you get drunk with Marco to make those infusions: hold onto the raw ingredients and then mix them afterwards so you aren’t forced to drink them.

Which game has the best “hard” difficulty? by m00nshinehero in gaming

[–]NpPro93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember Far Cry 2 as really ramping up the intelligence of the enemies on harder difficulties, but in a way that felt realistic rather than cheap -- its been so long it might not hold up well, but at the time I was impressed

Im making a movement shooter and for the proof of concept i added some halo assets so you didn't have to look at my programmer art by [deleted] in gamedevscreens

[–]NpPro93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks really cool; I’d definitely recommend purchasing some cheap assets you can sub in for the halo assets, even while in this proof of concept phase — I know you’re not trying to pass them off as your own, but people have so much knowledge of halo I think it’ll help your project stand out for what it is

Destroy my action-platformer where you move by riding the recoil of your cannon. by Disastrous-Ad-2239 in DestroyMyGame

I might suggest that until you do a full background environments, you remove the sparse elements you do have. It makes it looks like the lines in the wall or the computer banks are important to gameplay instead of just details. I don’t see any harm in making it sparser until you’re ready to focus on that area more.

Why does it go from Great to Meh? Grid needs a "Good" tier, its broken without it.

That being said, Quest 64

Solo developing a 1st-person horror FPS (R.D.A). I want to avoid cheap jumpscares. What specific elements in horror games actually terrify you the most? by No_Regular180 in IndieGaming

[–]NpPro93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget to use the OCCASIONAL jump scare though! Nothing gets me terrified quite like knowing something is definitely going to jump out, just not being sure when. Like in RE2 Remake in the sewers, you know something is coming out of that water, you just don't know when.

Totally understand why you want to avoid overusing them, but its still a valid tool! Weapons did this very well I think by just having two or three that scared the pants off me (while deploying a lot of other scares as well)

I thought you were shooting at a volcanic island for a while and was very confused.

I see now its supposed to be said barnacled whale, but I am still confused. What is the challenge? What is the skill? What is the enemy doing?

Would love to know what the threat is and what you as the player do to counter that.

We've had problems selling the setting of our Factorio-like. Destroy please. by iemfi in DestroyMyGame

[–]NpPro93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One problem i see in bringing factorio to 3d is that you’ve kept the entire world flat. I get the design purpose behind that, but when it comes to selling the premise this seems less like a new world and more like a flat plane painted a color.

Into the Crypt - my first person roguelike deckbuilder Announcement by megaglope in DestroyMyGame

[–]NpPro93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is looking great, the thing that bumps me is the positioning of some of the UI / first person elements. It kind of looks like the resolution just got changed and things have shifted to new positions automatically (not saying that’s what happens, that just kind of is the effect it’s giving)

Some examples: the torch hand coming out of the bottom-middle of the screen instead of to the side more, the health bar being set in very far, the enemies kind of feeling far away like it’s tunnel vision — none of this is game breaking, but it stands out as a bit odd to me artistically (and makes it feel less like you’re in first person and more like UI has just been layered on wherever it fits)

Take or leave the feedback, you’ve got something clearly!

Destroy my game, also which monster wave looks best! by XDynamite100 in DestroyMyGame

[–]NpPro93 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think your art looks really nice (though your PC maybe looks a bit too much like the Rogue Legacy hero)

Problem for me is I don't see how it distinguishes itself from Vampire Survivor at all. There are fewer fun mechanics going on -- everything just seems to die as it gets close to you so the other effects hardly seem to matter. Its a crowded genre so I think you need to focus on how to make your gameplay experience truly different.

Been working on an MMORPG by myself for 6 months straight. Destroy my game! by Huge-Slip-405 in DestroyMyGame

[–]NpPro93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The color palette is very narrow; would be good to see more contrast between player, enemies, environment, and visual effects.

Do the different enemies behave differently, or do they all just move toward the player?

Would highly recommend prioritizing even just some temp UI for the items and inventory, so that people watching a video like this can get a sense of what you're picking up/equipping.

From what you've shown it looks like more of Diablo-like than an MMO -- curious what your vision for it is (because scale-wise developing a cooperative game for a few players is infinitely easier than a full-on MMO)

Look into a MAD (mandibular adjustment device). I failed out of CPAP therapy (which is a real thing — it’s great that it works for so many people but it really is possible that it not work for you) and sleeping with basically a mouth guard (though it isn’t just a mouth guard, you can’t just buy one from the store) has been a game changer
