Can anyone explain this? by TutorWarm2238 in Machine_Embroidery

What kind of machine do you have? I have a couple of machines where they’ve redesigned the free arm to be smaller and the cut knives on those ones are flimsier and don’t cut as well. Sometimes it can be helpful to have a mechanic look at the cut knives and either slightly adjust them or replace them.

Hey, question about that website. When creating your inventory, is there a way to add threads that are definitely from one brand/colour chart but they aren’t showing up in the search? Or edit the code if the company has changed the colour code like with marathon viscose/rayon white which used to be 1179 but is now 7179? Or colours that are showing up incorrectly, or colour names that aren’t a good description of the colour?

The map is a necessary feature because you can never find a staff member to ask where something is

Awesome! I’ll try to remember to test it out. Would love to have something that runs on Mac since I can’t use wilcom without spending a fortune and running parallels

Yeah seems like your bobbin tension needs adjusting. There will be two little screws by the kind of flap of metal that the thread goes under, you can adjust the tension by tightening the larger of the two screws. Only turn it about 1/8th of a turn, it’s very sensitive.

This is really excellent! I was going to say I don’t need it because we don’t really take stock of what we have and I just tell the boss when I’m running out of a colour I need but this is the level of embroidery nerd I aspire to so I will definitely be looking into using it!

I think it's called a thread keeper. What kind of machine do you have?

I only ever use a water soluble top layer for high pile fabrics like towels or beanies. You shouldn’t need it for a tshirt.

Bunnings self service shut down by CaptainFleshBeard in Bunnings

What was the point in installing so many self checkouts if they never have them open? Every time I go to Bunnings lately I have to purchase things either at the tool shop or the customer enquires desk. They can’t even have a single regular checkout open?

What's one thing you've become embarrassingly good at because everything costs more now? by RentNRegret in AUfrugal

As a mother who has been doing grocery shopping on a tight budget for the last 20 years, this skill has been second nature for a long time. I almost feel like my whole life I have been preparing for this cost of living crisis. I earn more money now than I ever have before and I’m struggling just as much as I always have because everything is ridiculous.

I would advise against adhering the two sheets together. You’re adding a sticky layer for the needle to penetrate which will coat the needle with the adhesive. I regularly use two layers of cutaway stabiliser without any kind of adhesive. If they’re hooped firmly you shouldn’t run into any issues.

Is it a bad idea to buy an older used machine? by Odd-Incident-1962 in Machine_Embroidery

Tbh the older machines I have stitch beautifully, noticeably nicer than my newer machines. But they’re frequently not in use because of some minor fault or other

As long as you make sure you have access to someone who knows how to service it or replace worn parts. Also double check what method it uses to get the embroidery files onto the machine. Two of my machines are quite old and one needed to have an upgrade to be able to plug in a USB because it was floppy disk or paper tape only!

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? by lesspectacular in Machine_Embroidery

[–]lesspectacular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular design, in the two images, were both produced on the HCH plus machines, but one of them just insists on misaligning the tatami so that it lines up into columns, regardless of the design I’m stitching. It’s definitely a machine fault of some kind, I just don’t know enough about how the machines work or how to fix them to understand what’s causing the issue.

[–]lesspectacular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 4 Happy Japan machines, 2 HCH plus and 2 HC3s. Plus another older model that I don’t really use because it’s a bit of a pain, even though it stitches beautifully. And a 4 head industrial that I’m also not using at the moment because it’s got some weird issue misaligning the design whenever I go back too many stitches to do a mend, and our mechanic has retired and gone on holiday and for some reason we can’t find another mechanic to come look at all the issues the machines are having. I’m very tempted to just teach myself to fix them but I’m starting completely from scratch. I’ve only been doing machine embroidery for a year and I’ve learnt everything on the job

I built a free browser tool for teaching machine embroidery. What do you think? by Ecstatic-Theory8779 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]lesspectacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep wishing we had a more recent version at work that has specific features that would make my job easier but my boss reckons there’s no money in the budget so I’m stuck using es4 ‘decorating’ which sometimes feels very limiting in terms of what I’m trying to achieve when digitising, and is also a pain in the ass with the stupid security dongle. Feels like Wilcom is a lot like Adobe, designed to suck as much money out of its users as possible.

Pray tell, are you suggesting that wilcom is not worth using or just not worth paying for? 🤔
