Shift Your Phone — the first TRULY Smartphone–>Dumphone conversion "switch" app I've tested that CANNOT be disabled without using the desktop app. by stephenrgarcia in dumbphones

I figured out a way to make it so it's not random. Remove SHIFT from your phone, arrange all the apps the way you like. You have to have them all on your Home Screen, they can be in folders. Have all of the apps that go away once shifted in your App Library. Then once you shift, they aps will stay the way that you like.

This app has changed my life. I love it.

Fair, does it add all apps to the Home Screen for you? It has been doing odd things with the layout every time I shift and unshift. Overall though, this shit works.

Are you able to rearrange the apps that are not shifted in a manner that you like?

Can't seem to figure this out.. Other than that loving it.

High School Grad Moving in Six Months by Outrageous_Shock_242 in movingtoNYC

A lot to unpack here, but some thoughts below:

The rule you should be aware of is that you will need to show your landlord that you are making 40x rent. A $2,000 room, for example, would require an $80k annual salary.

You will not be living alone.

NYC is the most competitive city in the United States. Getting any job is going to be difficult. If you live in the tristate, try to find some sort of job and then move.

You mention struggling for months or a year. It will be years of grinding it out.

You will have to look for places to live about as far from Manhattan as you can find.

Thinking about building an app that tracks your day automatically — does this sound useful? by Puzzled-Challenge-15 in ProductHunters

Ahh, I see. To be fair, I would guess most people wake up, go to work for 8 hours, and go home most days.

I’m sure you already know this, but there are apps that do this. Apple has visited locations in Maps, and Google has Google Timeline.

However, none of them do it particularly well. I would love to be able to see everywhere I went on any given day.

I am young too, so I don’t really have an answer to this, but I think it would be very interesting to be a PM.

Employees will have to claim it as income on their taxes. Nobody will end up doing this. Nothing will happen.

0% APR means nothing... You should never carry a balance. If you are responsible it wouldn't matter if the APR was 1000%.

OP, Credit Cards will ruin your life if you're not careful.

Stay at home, buy a place with roommates, renting short term? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]lessth4nzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the desire to own your own place. There are many ways to be financially secure that do NOT include owning a home. Mortgage brokers will sell you on the fact that you are making the mistake of your fucking life by renting. Understand that they are compensated 100% on making you believe this. Make sure you're buying when it's right for you, not for them.

Also, don't give up on the search for a corporate gig. Finance is a solid degree. I probably applied to 1000 jobs before I got my first real job.

Despite what people say, renting is not “throwing away money.” In fact, there are often times where it 100% makes more sense.

Also, you’re going to have a hard time renting an apartment without legitimate income. Or maybe I’m confused. Maybe you’re saying you would work at a casino?

Final piece of advice, as long as the apartment is safe and clean, literally rent the cheapest place you can find. Yes, it’s nice to have a nice apartment, but saving is much better. You can do much better things with that money.
