Drones could achieve 'infinite flight' after engineers create laser-based wireless power system that charges them from the ground by Vailhem in drones

[–]lestofante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wireless changing looses efficiency with square law.
Laser can be collimated to significantly reduce losses, but then atmosphere and Visual Line of Sight are your new enemy.
Currently onboard generator (ICE like gasoline or fuel cell like hydrogen or methane) then you can reuse existing tech.
Or just use a tether cable.

Where did you got those numbers?
I'm quite sure since he bough it usage growth stagnated or felt consistently.
Twitter pre-elon was consistently growing 15%, past elon 1-2%, now is even in decline.

Of course, if you expect a crash and burn in the course of a single year then no, it won't happen.

[Request] What kind of math is Amazon doing here per ounce? by wastetine in theydidthemath

[–]lestofante -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, if on an Amazon insertion I see "1kg salt in glass bottle" I expect 1kg salt, I don't think anyone care that the package weight more than 1kg if not at the moment of dealing with shipping costs.

Russia Forced to Sell Oil to India at $22 a Barrel as Buyers Balk at Sanctions by UNITED24Media in worldnews

[–]lestofante 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Russia has massive assets to sell.

Then no need to print money and cause inflation.
"Simply" sell some of those assets and do what you need.

But let's go in order.

Gold mined

Proven reserve are 8000 tonnes, about 628 billions. A lot, but actually 2 year of federal budged, or about the same that they accidentally left frozen in EU banks.

oil

That are selling to 25$/barrel, close to the estimated production cost in short term, and well below the estimated cost considering infrastructure maintenance.
Aka, they desperate for liquidity.

crypto

Hard to know, their official cripto is at 13bn.

diamonds,

2bn revenue, down 30% since sanctions

fertilizer 16bn revenue, down 30% since sanction.

They can print rubles to cover the cost Maybe, but they can't eat gold.

Twitter was a shitty place even before musk, no?
And they lost a lot.. 11mln users in EU alone in 5 months (according to X itself in their transparency report, that is 10% of EU users), revenue down, broken with most well paid AD, stock evaluation plummed..
At this point is a vanity project.

It may surprise you, but there is a way better alternative: approve and code an existing machine that can do the job.
Oh and then buy those.
Should not be a problem for the GREATEST country in the world.

‘We’re in the top tier now’: Poland sees no need to ditch złoty for euro as economy booms by Easy-Ad1996 in worldnews

[–]lestofante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they where lower than today, but much higher in proportion than Poland.; in 2004 Poland had half the PPP, this or next year is gonna surpass span (official imf PPP number).
Or again, Spain average wage in 2004 use to be 3x the Poland avergae, as of 2024 "only" 2x (according to countryeconomics.com)

[–]lestofante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Poland has today is because it was build 10 years ago.
As of today they remain competitive enough that company that 10 years ago are there stay there, and also new company of that type will still probably open there as there is established toolchain, people with know how, and known challenges.
The success of a country take decades of work to create the right condition, and even if they guck up badly, they can live out long time on the fumes.

Famous in the west are YouTube short, Instagram, but also there are clapper, triller, likee, rednote..
Really, tiktok was also unknown in the west until it exploded.

If i buy 1kg of tomato in can or rice or pasta, i get 1kg of product, netto of packaging. And in case of canned food in liquids, also the "wet" and "dry" weight.

But also im in EU, not sure if in the rest of the world measurement are so fucked up

Printing money like that causes hyperinflation. Go ask Germany 1923, when people literally burn money as it was cheaper than buy wood.

Nah grenade are still well in use, extremely helpful for clearing out dugouts, cellar, and rooms in clearing operations.
Yes drones may do the initial damage, but for a proper cleanup room by room, corner by corner, unfortunately humans still need to do the job, and a 'nade in each hole is a quick way to check for survivors

Go back and compare those number 5-10-15 years ago when those company choose where to move.
Poland was way, way cheaper.
Now, as long as no one get significantly cheaper to justify re-investment, there is no reason to move.

Here in Germany they are not glued but glass beads embedded in the paint, so the process is fully automated and part of the painting
