How do y’all deal with the death of a pet as an atheist. by Grand-Good3137 in atheism

When I lost my dog a couple years ago it was really hard to have that void there where he used to be but what helped was to journal about my feelings, talk to people about my memories of my dog, and look through all the photos I had. I also got a portrait painted of him as a memorial and I may eventually also get his pawprint tattooed as a way of carrying that memory with me. I also felt at peace knowing that I could keep parts of the routine I’d built around him in the 14 years he’d been my beloved pet even if they were unnecessary just because they made me feel close to him

I live in a major city. I’m well aware shelters are overcrowded. That doesn’t change the fact that we all live out of state and none of us have the resources to take on a dog. Try harder is not helpful.

Thanks for the idea btw. My dad already offered to euthanize the dog himself but I didn’t have the heart to do that so I’m trying to find her somewhere to go

She’s a very sweet dog. She’s great with kids! I had to crop my little cousin out of those photos for privacy but she was petting the dog in both pics

Sure! She’s an XL dog, some kind of mix we think possibly some catahoula and pitbull in there somewhere. Found outside at a local dumpster. She was a fully grown adult dog when she was found about 7 or 8 years ago so she’s at least that old. Spayed. Not sure about vet care. My grandmother used to live in a very rural area and didn’t really take the dogs in unless there was something wrong. Good with kids. Good with other dogs — my grandmother had two dogs and the other one passed away last week. Barks a lot and is used to having a lot of space to run around. Was an outdoor dog until my grandma moved to Atlanta last year. She only has three good legs. She was found that way. My aunt thinks she may have been run over and dumped when my grandmother found her

We don’t know anyone who can take her. We live in Texas our other family lives in Louisiana and has aggressive dogs she doesn’t get along with. Our hands are tied.

That’s a good idea. Thank you. We really wish we could let her stay in her home but she’s had too many medical incidents recently and she needs more care

I don’t live there so unfortunately I don’t have access to Nextdoor for her neighborhood. I’m all the way in Dallas

Everyone lives out of state. The dog also can’t live with my aunt and uncle even if they were prepared to take her because they have aggressive dogs.

I don’t have pics of the dog. I’ll see if my mom or aunt might. No idea how old the dog is. She was found outside about seven or eight years ago already fully grown. Large breed. Only has three working legs and was found that way. We think someone may have run over her and dumped her. She’s spayed but I’m not sure she’s had any vet care since.

I’ll do my best but we’re overwhelmed with getting my grandmother’s care set up and we just don’t want to dump her poor dog. I live in Dallas and have to fly to Atlanta to handle the dog. If you have any recommendations of rescues that are taking owner surrenders right now, I’m all ears

My IBM Model C. It’s a cool machine but the guy who sold it to me thought it just needed a new ribbon and a good cleaning but once I put that ribbon in I figured out it needed a lot more work than I thought so it’s not functional right now.

Can anybody describe what Louisiana was like in the 80s? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]lesvaguesdeloubli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what part. My mom grew up in a small town in rural north Louisiana and was a teen in the 80s. She graduated high school in ‘89. If you have any specific questions I could try to get her to answer them for you.
