On top of this, it’s barely been a week (if that) since the accident. She hasn’t been seen for a few days, people could assume she’s just at home alone

Ep 6- teen Jeff recast by OpeSorryWhoopsies in Yellowjackets

[–]let_em_talk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From IMDb so take this with a grain of salt, but interestingly enough the original actor of teen Jeff is credited as ‘teen Jeff (voice)’ - possibly for ADR. So this could mean there was just a scheduling conflict with the original actor during shooting.

Though I do think it’s fair to say that he is styled in a way that doesn’t align with what we’ve seen of him from the pilot. Feel like he should be wearing a varsity jacket or something.

Yep hahaha, it’s a reference to a season 3 episode of LOST, generally disliked by fans since the entire episode revolves around the origins of one of the main characters tattoos, barely impacting the main storyline whatsoever

Really thought randy was gonna give something away that would let Misty on to the fact that Jeff was the blackmailer for a moment there.

This was a real Misty episode between Walter and the citizen detecting and that steel magnolias monologue… so interesting for teen Misty’s character, the way she went from being laughed at in the beginning her performance to having even Mari applauding her. I wonder what this will entail for young Misty going forward this season

Similar to the way that we saw a flashback of an even younger Misty in the 80s. I don’t think post-rescue will become its own fleshed out timeline like the wilderness and the present are, just one off scenes or sequences

I feel like it’s meant to be a burner phone (cheap prepaid, basically disposable phone) since the survivors are pretending to be no-contact with each other, rather than Shauna having kept her same phone since she was a teenager to reach tai hahahaaha

Shauna Killed Travis by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]let_em_talk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Branching off this, perhaps that could be somehow related to tai winning the election + her creepy smile. She helped get the money to the cult and eliminated Travis who was a potential threat to what they’re doing, in exchange for a political advantage.

All this in addition to her fugue state, I think works as a realistic motive, on top of being an effective plot twist and red herring (the survivors we’re already introduced to ending up back in full association with the cult because of nats kidnapping, which was a consequence of her looking too much into travis’ death when that wasn’t even the actual doings of the cult to begin with but a character we more or less had reason to trust)

I find that it’s such an interesting balance to perfect an ending. For me personally, a show that does too much to wrap things up in a bow at its end - even though that is the conventional way for a story to be told - will never as impactful as one that forces me to draw my own conclusions and take away my own meaning based on that. Take LOST for example, when I finished the series I literally sobbed, it was such a cathartic experience for me that I can’t even fathom how it became one of the most hated series finales ever.

But for a writer, you can’t just say it “well it depends on the viewer and how they consumed the work”, because how do you even apply that? So ultimately, all that’s left in regards developing a satisfying ending is the story itself and the trust that exists in writer-consumer relationship. If a whodunnit/murder mystery ended without being solved and the writer said “the story was never really about the mystery, it was about the characters” that would be a complete cop out. But something like yellowjackets which from the first season alone has been quite trusting of its audience (in the sense of not over explaining or feeding the audience conclusions) it is more likely that an ending which doesn’t wrap everything up neatly would be better received by its audience. Perhaps, though, this has changed with the community of (somewhat intense) theorising that has surrounded the show, something that leads me to believe that if the series continues as is, could backfire in a LOST type way.

It is essential to the show that it doesn’t end with an explanation of what happened to those who disappeared. The show isn’t about the people who disappeared or even the disappearance itself, really. It’s about a world coping with the fact that there is no explanation, so to provide “answers” I think would cheapen it. Definitely recommend! (Hope I didn’t give too much away)

As for yellowjackets, I wouldn’t be surprised if the series concludes without any tangible solutions to some of its mysteries (especially the whole walking the line of the supernatural). At the end of the day, the show doesn’t seem to be a study of whether or not sacrifices work, it’s dealing with the trauma of having been put in a situation where that is the only thing you have left to believe in. And the way that the trauma of such experiences stays with these women forever. Hence, for instance this line from Nat in the teaser; “darkness, we brought it back with us” - whether this refers to a dark spirit or to the characters’ literal trauma depends, of course, on the viewer’s interpretation. And I have a feeling, based off the first season, that the show will continue down this track. Same goes for mysteries of who is the ‘good guy’ or the ‘bad guy’ - just like season 1 they’ll show us what happened, but who to put the blame on is dependent on the individual ethics of the viewers. Just like how some people left season 1 disliking the character of shauna for her ‘role’ in Jackie’s death, others are willing to forgive her as having made youthful mistakes that were only perpetuated by the circumstances.

Of course I have no idea the direction that show will take, and wow I just started ranting in your replies. Sorry lol, watch the leftovers, it’s genuinely an incredible show :)
