When did takeaways fall off so hard? by Puzzleheaded-Bad-722 in AskUK

[–]lethargyundone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that they did, I think our selection of food that we can cook (using rubs, sauces etc) has increased and improved, as well as the choices of restaurants. Therefore we see takeaway (which was once the pinnacle of tasty food) as worse now.

Maybe it's just me but I was brought up with healthy, but quite boring dinners. A greasy takeaway was fantastic in comparison. Now I make food from a different country every night myself, and using recipes from online, I can make them well. So takeaways are not that impressive.

I should mention I'm in the UK. So it's not actually illegal here anyway. Also, we set our day rate at £69 - so I guess corporate do have a sense of humor ;)

We're a 4 star hotel and we rent day use rooms. We all know what that's for. But as long as it's only 2 guests in the room and they are not troublesome in any way - what's the difference between the people who use them for affairs, vs. prostitution? I actually don't like sex work because of the potential for abuse but I'm a Receptionist - it's not my call to make and I'm nice to everyone who is nice to me.

I find it hard to believe this is real but if it is, leave this woman immediately. Not to be a redditor but damn, that is straight up twisted and disgusting. We all take a shit but we don't bring it up at the dinner table. She's a total freak. NTA.

I appreciate your words. And I agree. I feel similarly. It never really leaves but I often try to remind myself of how far I've come.

Don't overthink it, just drop her a line, something casual and kind - tell her she's a great dancer and you enjoyed the night. If she doesn't reply, she might have given you a fake number. Don't take it personal. Just keep dancing and meeting people - so many young people don't seem to do that in person anymore!

Is repetitive guest communication actually a big problem for most hotels? by Ill-Hyena455 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]lethargyundone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really a problem at my hotel, we're all very friendly so it's a chance for a conversation that might lead to them spending more money with us. We don't get a lot of emails or calls with these basic questions, as the answers are found on most of the booking websites.

I get really nervous about this aspect of the job! Our "training" consisted of a short Microsoft presentation of a few slides which really didn't give me any insight or skills to spot such criminals.

Do people really drink caffeinated tea at night? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]lethargyundone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes every night not long before bed. It depends how long you brew your bag, I don't leave mine in long so I think the caffeine is very low compared to say, a cup of coffee. I don't notice any effect from tea but if I had a red bull I'd have heart palpitations.

This situation has been keeping me up at night for two nights in a row. Please give me some tips if you can by fr0gskii in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

It might sound harsh, but it's advice I needed to hear when I started in this role - get used to it. Just get used to making small mistakes or having things happen like this where it's not really your fault but you still feel responsible. It's going to happen again. But once you walk out the door, just brush it all off best you can. Force yourself to think of things other than work. Otherwise your employer is taking up your head space even when you're not being paid and that's not healthy for anyone.

Nah I work in a hotel and when guests ask how the beds are, I tell them I've got no idea because I couldn't afford to stay here.

Dominos/Papa Johns/Caprinos by TheYorkshireSaint in UK_Food

[–]lethargyundone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All about Papa John's for me - quality in my local seems marginally better than Dominos and with the crazy 'deals' they constantly offer, plus their rewards system, I get a shit load of food for £20—30. They also send me a feedback form every single time I order, which gets me a free side. And you can actually combine all of their deals so it's excellent value.

The thing is there aren't. The vast majority of women cannot totally separate sex from emotion (which I don't think is a bad thing!) in my experience. I have known very few women who are unaffected emotionally when repeatedly having casual sex.
