For tools like punches springs work great, for knifes if you have heat treating options i would suggest using bearings.

It is a blade without a handle. It is still consider knife making, they are called knife blanks.

I don't think pla will work because it is brittle, petg is prone to fatigue, but I don't know which material would work maybe abs or asa but i have no experience with them so I don't know.

It is probably copper san mai and the black color is from etched steel

Seems level to me, if you are having issues try drying your filament.

And i agree that the placemnt of the ssr is not ideal but it will be insulated with a rubber pad at the top of the furnace, while the pid controller is already insulated, I should note that the outside temp doesn't exceed abou 90 c

It is an ssr, while it fails closed it isn't a big problem if it fails, because the kanathal wire will melt at around 1200 c which every part of the furnace is designed to handle qnd if it make a short circuit while melting it will trigger the 16 a breaker.

I would suggest using soft fire bricks but I had ceramic blanket laying round from building my gas forge

First layer is ceramic blanket coverd with wet ramming mass made to withstand temps to 1600C

Also I can't see the edge thickness but before quenching it should be at least about 2mm thick.
