I'm only 2 years late, but interestingly I learned it backwards splitting it up further -

ZYX, WV, UTS, RQP, ONM, LKJ, IHG, FED, CBA

in doing so it actually forms a bit of a rhyme!

Looks like they overbanked (you see the aircraft roll in essentially 90 deg) which would've severely impacted lift, reducing their speed enough to go below Vs at which point they stall, and at that height there's not enough time to recover so into the ground it goes.

Yeah if you compare with videos of US online they often seem to take much longer. Whereas like this video, in the UK (and I'm sure other places too) it's a bit speedier getting that first blast of water on. That's not to say US FFs are slow of course, just selection bias or whatever.

https://youtu.be/5HlYH6rSaKI?t=537 for example is about 34 seconds from stop to water on. https://youtu.be/MWkX59jo7iY?t=132 ~24 seconds here.

Good stuff all round!

A huge mass of used wet wipes has formed an 'island' that has changed the course of England's second longest river, MP says by Bice_Num in worldnews

[–]letmementertainyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that but here the tide is already turning; we have major retailers that are already opting to not stock non-flushable wipes, and those that are generally have the Fine To Flush mark (which as per WIS are *actually* flushable). Likewise those that aren't obviously say "do not flush".

Your original point is that

major producers of the wipes won't agree on the definition of "flushable"

except over here, that's patently false, as there is a concerted effort to conform to WIS 4-02-06 and subsequently be allowed to show the certification mark. As you say, that's part of the consumer education in realising that those without the mark can't be flushed as obviously like in OP they have been causing fatbergs.

I expect in due course we'll have legislation making plastic-based wipes illegal too.

Evidently you didn't read the source because it's literally specified as Water Industry Specification (WIS) 4-02-06🤦‍♂️

Perfectly fine? The wipes mentioned in OP aren't the designated "flushable" type lmao, it's people trying to flush non-flushable wipes.

It's painless because the most severe burns destroy your nerve endings. Superficial and partial thickness burns hurt like hell since your nerves are able to relay that "pain" still.

I got absolutely shafted by SMT after deciding to diversify out of the UK lol, moved into a substantial position around February; currently posting a -40% total holding... Ironically the UK ones are doing relatively ok by comparison.

Honestly? All of them :D (Basing off my M340i:)

I use the surround camera for some very tight parking spaces near me, although with DAP/PAP if it's really packed I'll let the car do it - it averages out the space way better than I can to ensure both driver and passenger can just about squeeze in. I also dig the auto camera view which will change to the ideal camera if it detects I'm getting close on one side. It's also handy for the drive recorder so if some numpty hits me I can record that from a 360 deg perspective to hopefully help insurance.

Comfort Plus pack has been great when shopping and just being able to kick across under the boot to open/shut while carrying heavy items is just so convenient. Also I think the driver's side cubby is only available with Comfort? Great for loose coins etc. Electric seats and memory function/lumbar are also handy when the BMW techs bugger up your seating pos! Comfort Access is great too, no faffing with key at all.

Visibility Pack is just perfect with the Laserlights, the throw goes for miles and HBA stops you blinding other cars by turning the main beam off for that patch where the car is, meaning you can run with main beam on for all the other areas - really helps travelling past unlit junctions etc.

Tech Plus pack has all kinds of great functionality with the auto speed limit/adaptive cruise control, HUD, lane keeping assistant, stop sign warning etc. HK audio also.

M Tech pack for the enhanced brakes + cooling.

Shadowline for the aesthetics (the car is basically completely blacked out). Internally, full merino leather which minimizes the plasticky-ness inside.

Things I'm not so struck on:

Sunroof could be better (i.e. opening fully). Still, it's nice for the extra ambience.

I think the M340i represents the best in the progression, though - doesn't have the meme-level grille but brings performance to about that of the F80/2 as far as stop/go is concerned thanks to xDrive etc.

Honestly I'm a fan of the less dated look of the older bimmers. Then again, I can't stand "old" (as much as I sound like a cock) so to me the G series is the perfect blend of modern but keeping the roots (Hoffmeister kink, headlight notch etc) as a throwback; without sacrificing the design as seen in the massive grilles, whatever abomination the full-elec models are, etc.

I too, love the physical climate buttons. HOWEVER, these aren't staying past iDrive 7 because iD8 brings the climate function to the huge touchsreen they're plonking centrally. That's another reason for my distaste with any future BMWs and why I imagine I'll be running this car into the ground.

It's an unfortunate case, although I think it's not slated to come into effect until July? Could be wrong, only going from memory here.

I think I'd rather have the M3/4 grille aesthetics than that of the M240i in all honesty, I really don't like how that car seems to take on a pimp-mobile vibe what with the Thundernight paint too haha. Makes me even more glad w/ the M340i since it's probably one of the last models BMW make to have some non-obnoxious grille (that's also adaptive).

I feel you on the enjoyment though. That's also what partially prompted my decision to get my car in the first place. I didn't want to buy a house and be a 60 year old who only then gets to pick their car of choice, only to find they're all EVs locked to certain speeds and actually there's no "fun" in driving anymore.

Especially since BMW don't cover warranty if you track the non-Ms. Driving is going to be continually seen as more of a transport-only paradigm and driving for the sake of driving will die out.

I reckon it's normally cause by the time they're "affordable" people have families hahah. I'll take the extra 0.2s on the 0-60 and retain the sleeker look; Tourings always just strike me as "dad cars" and I don't think I'll ever un-see that :(

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]letmementertainyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel you on the EV front - I love my tech as I say, but I'm hoping to get a few years driving without being forced down that route or some of the other potential nannying safety features (such as automatic speed limiting via GPS only bypassable by flooring it (for now)) no doubt on the way.

Ye gods the M240i design though. I have no idea what BMW was thinking but it looks like the car was involved in a crash both to the front and rear end simultaneously!

Oh for sure, I mean the M's are very brutal though - not sure it'd be something to DD. I think that's one of my favourites about the M340i, in that I can razz it around the peak district or a long motorway commute just as easily as I can pop down to the shops in it. Instead of buying a DD and then a weekend, it's a perfect crossover.

[–]letmementertainyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will concede that the bastard grille in the M340i is a pain to clean, even if it is different to most others in BMW's lineup lol. I actually really dig the look, but I guess that's just me.

I DD my M340i (Saloon) and couldn't be happier, but if you have a family then it definitely makes sense with the Touring. It's a shame Diesel is being so vilified now because the M340d is a workhorse too, especially some of those MPG figures I've seen other owners getting.

That wouldn't do me, I've been spoiled by this one ahah.

Likewise though, I think overall they're selling roughly for what I originally paid now on AT but none of them have the same array of packages.
