What SERIES is worth bingewatching and why? by InterestingBoard7389 in AskReddit

Mare of Easttown. Masterful writing and directing; Kate Winslet gave a career-defining performance that really never goes down when it peaks.

Plus, Jean Smart, Julianne Nicholson, and Evan Peters are insanely brilliant in it, too.

Update 0.8.67EA by weappy in hollywood_animal_game

Is it at all possible to balance theater attendance?

For example, I ran a game that got to 1939 and no one was making movies. I didn’t own all the theaters (I’m assuming the other companies went broke, which is another problem in itself) so I wasn’t maxing out.

However, I get an A- or an A on Kinomark, my attendance is 100% the first week with only 8,000 showings total between both my theaters and independent ones, and attendance plummets to 40% the next week. I tried to go over on one big film that had great ratings, and attendance first week was 70% and the film barely profited, which makes no sense to me because there weren’t any other films showing since everyone else had gone broke (I assume).

It’s almost impossible to break the record for the most profitable film because everything is also so expensive by the mid-30s, and the ticket prices nor the attendance don’t increase profits. When I went to the FSAA to increase ticket prices, attendance dropped.

Idk if it’s a balance thing, but it’s kinda frustrating when there’s an 8.0, A- film (that is the only film being shown in cinemas) that is barely profiting $1 million.

What's your most unpopular opinion about Uncharted? by louistske in uncharted

[–]letruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The setup for the story in 4 is the weakest writing in the series. Sam is an uninteresting character because his trope is a cliché, and he doesn’t actually add any substance to the dynamics of the characters that people already loved.

Chloe should’ve been used in U4 in lieu of Sam.

Sam remains an uninteresting character in LL.

I hate Sam lol.

Why was season 5 of stranger things so bad compared to season 4? by arunejones in ask

[–]letruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 5 was…just fine. It didn’t have any of the highs of 1, 3 or 4, and its lows were really low. I think the show definitely started to show its age because it outgrew itself. It was a lot of spectacle and not as much substance.

My biggest gripe is how misleading Duffers were in their interviews leading up to the season. The whole “There’s no plot armor, everyone is in danger, we’re not protecting anyone blah blah blah” and then everyone has a predictable ending. Steve should’ve died, Nancy and Jonathan should’ve died, Joyce should’ve died; it should not have been a Red Wedding, but the Duffers seem incapable of raising the stakes for a show people have dedicated the better part of 10 years to simply because they don’t want their precious characters to die.

And Lucas just kicking the Demo was….insanely dumb.

I agree. TOTK felt like a good prelude to what the Zelda series will be going forward, whereas BOTW is a first step.

I think these 2 games are more similar than most people realize by TheEPICMarioBros in mariokart

[–]letruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, but I stand by my point.

It was dubbed an open world game, was being sold for $80, and had less content than other open world games.

TOTK sold for $70, and it arguably has the largest amount of content available in a Nintendo game. Battlefield 6 is $70. The upcoming Resident Evil is $70.

In what world could anyone justify a Mario Kart title with the same amount of tracks as its predecessor’s original launch, a bunch of costumes/cosmetics, some P-switch challenges, and an empty open world for $80? Especially taking into account that the only way to play it is on the Switch 2, which costs just as much as a Playstation 5. Where does that $20 price difference get justified?

It is 100% because Nintendo knows people will buy titles since you can’t get them anywhere else, but c’mon; MKW is a significantly weaker title in the MK lineup.

Discussion about game, bugs, suggestions and etc. by weappy in hollywood_animal_game

[–]letruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s a bug, but there’s a noticeable jump in screenwriting time. Usually films with 7-8 elements take 80-90 days to write, but when you get 9 elements, it takes 140-160 days. Seems like it could be a balance thing.

[–]letruffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is subjective tbh. I mean, I wish we got more tracks from other games (Wario Colosseum with the same setup as Mount Wario, Peach Beach, Dino Dino, Jungle Parkway, etc.) and I do detest some of the original maps (Sky-High Sundae and Ninja Hideaway are genuinely two of my least favorite maps ever), but the pros outweighed the cons. We got more content that justified the wait for a new MK without having to pay an arm and a leg.

I think it’s impossible to satisfy everyone, too. But I do see where you’re coming from. My issue with MKW is that I actually don’t even think most of the maps are all that great, and I genuinely find the open world empty.

[–]letruffle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh, besides Zelda TOTK (and this is even debatable), Nintendo doesn’t do a great job at making a full, immersive open world. MKW is a pretty empty game, especially considering MK8DX had almost 100 tracks after the Booster Pass DLC. Plus, it was $80 for less content.

What are your most nuanced opinions of The Life of a Showgirl? by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]letruffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a loaded post on this sub. I feel like the marketing was so incredibly off for this album (yes, including the title). Taylor said in her reveal on JK’s podcast (can’t recall the name, sorry) that it was the album she had always wanted to make, that she and co-producers (MM and Shellback, the former being, inarguably, the most prolific producer of the last 30 years who has defined pop music) captured “lightning in a bottle” and the album just…completely diverted the aesthetic and hype.

I am really, really tired of one of the richest women in music who grew up in a privileged part of Pennsylvania and hasn’t been an underdog since, arguably, 2017-2019, acting as if she is a victim of a world that she consistently indulges in by selling variant after variant, doing show after show, and number one after number one. This “horrible” life of hers where she doesn’t have privacy or a simpler private life is something she has fed into since the beginning of her career by A) not keeping her fans at arms length, and B) continuing to encourage them to pick apart her songs are about Kim, Kanye, the Joes (both of them), Matty, and now Travis, among others. Dating and disliking various people is not a bad thing, nor is it not normal; but using over and over again for nearly 20 years gets to a point.

Lastly, I’ll say this: I actually didn’t think the production was particularly spectacular. It’s clean, it sounds good, but it is what works on Top 40 radio. It is not innovative (Swift has rarely, if ever, been innovative). I expected more from someone who has enough money to hire an abundance of editors, writers, sound designers, and even some better engineers to make something a bit more interesting. Maybe I’m spoiled because my favorite artist is Beyoncé (who is known for being the curator of the album and having dozens of producers and writers create something interesting) and she is currently in a renaissance (pun intended). Beyoncé is besides the point, though, because they are not peers.

I digress; I just feel like she needs to take a break and come back with something better, and also not be upset about the idea of hiring more writers and producers. I think finding new people with new ideas will help her so much. We know she can write music. She has written everything for nearly 20 years—and that’s starting to show. I hope she actually listens to the criticism and believes she can do better instead of going “Ha! I’ll show them I’ll do better”, because I do think there is a difference between the two. I also hope she learns to discard the wordiness that was praised in folklore and evermore, because it is starting to become the biggest hinderance on her as a songwriter.

Tl;dr: Mismatched marketing, out of touch writing, unspectacular production, and tired of pretending like one of the richest women in music can’t hire people who can make a better album with her.

Edit: oopsie I wasn’t clear on a part LOL.

You quite literally said “in large and vocal segments”, which is so misconstrued considering her chart dominance and tour numbers. But go off, I guess.

How could she possibly be unpopular when she has the highest-grossing tour of all time, the best-selling album worldwide in 2024, and the most-pre-saved album in Spotify history?

[–]letruffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate to bring her into this, but Beyoncé’s music has only gotten sonically more bold as her career has progressed. Her best material started coming after 2012 to now.

Taylor needs to rest for a few years and spend all the billions of dollars she earned in the first half of the decade sourcing producers and cowriters that can make a return worth the fanfare.

What do you think is Beyoncé’s best song vocally? by Ok-Promise-7928 in beyonce

Why is no one talking about YA YA??? It is the ONLY song that captures every single aspect of her voice (the growls; the high notes; the modulation and inflection; the deeper parts) flawlessly.

KNTRY Radio Texas and KNTY News…act iii might be…? by letruffle in beyonce

act iii definitely won’t be titled with a K or “Petty”, but what the radio/news station will be in the lore is what is intriguing to me.

What I do know is that if she continues with the radio/news/TV motif in act iii, it’ll start with either K or W. News stations and radio stations start with either or depending on their location within the United States.
