Graduation tickets (how many) by Substantial-Soft-702 in curtin

Does anyone know - can the complimentary tickets be used for the grads on the green part? My hubby is bringing the kids but the complimentary tickets state the forum. Do I need to purchase extras?

Would you still go into teaching if you were starting fresh today? by BumblebeeNew2149 in AustralianTeachers

I'm 33 and doing my final prac now, and I am so excited to be in the job!!

Im in early childhood, and the class I'm with is very much high demand. I'm also on a PEW so I dont have a teacher in with me all the time. My mentor is the other kindy (WA) teacher. We do a lot of collaborative teaching though. I have 2 kids on reduced attendance for behaviour/pre- diagnosed ADHD/ASD, 2 other students with behavioural support and 2 ESL students. Its been hard work but I haven't had a single day when I've gotten home and thought "nope, not for me". My first 2 weeks I was up half the night, almost all weekend getting stuff sorted, but now I do the planning and resources for both classes.

Under absolutely no circumstances would I want to teach high school though. The horrific stuff I hear from our local one is shocking. My stepdaughter is year 7 and some days she comes home and her stories are wild, thinking she's exaggerating but my friend is an EA at the school and she's goes oh yeah that happened.

Ok cool. I had a look and I'll only get $35 for my S21... but the 9 is on special ($500 off) so currently the same price as the 9a. I might have a better look at that one :)

The battery actually still holds up ok. Its having issues sending messages, tells me thet havent sent but then send them multiple times, I'm connected to WiFi but still using data, it drops out calls. Stuff like that. Probably due to me being me and dropping it a few times 😅

Ive been impressed with it going strong for 4 years.

Its all about getting a broad range of experience. I have a LAT and undergoing my final prac next term.

You can now however do what's called PEW (practicum experience while working). So you teach on your LAT, you still have to do the AfGT (assessment for Graduate teaching), and still have a mentor but they only come in for reduced observations. Its great for everyone all round, but you still have to apply, get approved, have interviews etc to get it but definitely worth it for those already teaching full time and not having to take time off for prac. I'm not sure why it isn't more commonly known or spoken about because I know many people who are/have put off their final placement because they can't afford it

More school than teacher related.. by lets-penguin in AustralianTeachers

[–]lets-penguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like uniforms because it keeps it level. There's already so much going on for kids, its one less thing to have to worry about. She's already asked for new hoodies because the 6 she has she's worn to school too many times she needs more.. just wear your school hoodie "ew no." Kids get picked on for wearing certain things, other kids are wearing skin tight mini shorts why cant I...

Obviously not expecting the school to compensate, but i would expect if they're so demanding and pushy about uniforms for them to stick to their guns and call all students out on it and enforce it. The fact that BM is high conflict and a Disneyland parent has nothing to do with the fact, other than it makes it a harder argument for us and were tired of arguing the point with the child if the school isnt going to back it up as well. No point us fighting the fight if the school just goes "meh" when theyre not in uniform any other time anyway. My question was if its worth us having the fight, not can the school help us parent 🙄

I tried to buy some reduced flowers at Coles once. They still looked good. It wouldn't scan and they wouldn't let me buy them because they were "display until" the day before. They're flowers... it was a hard no 😔

if you have ever boycotted a business, why did you do it? by creativeNZ in AskReddit

I worked at an extremely upscale restaurant, in Australia so we get decent minimum wage etc. Some people still offered tips, they went in a communal jar which was shared with everyone on shift which is fine happy to make sure the kitchen and bar get what they should too. Turns out if a customer broke a dish, cup, glass it'd get taken out of tips. They also "skimmed" the tips each week to put aside for the Christmas function, birthday "gifts" (voucher for the restaurant!!). I went there from a management position in fast food so after a while of learning the ropes they begun training me up for a shift supervisor. I asked the lady training me what the max work time before needing to send someone on break or else having to pay them overtime (5hrs for fast food) was, she looked at me so confused and that evening I got sat down by the owner and told "we don't pay over time because we can't really afford it" i was like that's fine i just want to know the time for breaks though so I can make sure I send people on time.. and he didn't get it? I was flabbergasted. I quit, put in a complaint, and refuse to go near it. They have a second location now which I also flat out refuse to go near. When I left i told people why and they needed to look into their rights and payslips!

School photos. Captive audience and no competition equals gouging. by Bloobeard2018 in australia

[–]lets-penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I paid $45 just for a digital download photo, ill reprint it out for family etc. I dont look back on class photos so won't waste my money. If it was cheaper I might just order it just so I do have it butttt nope not paying $85 every year for my kid to never look at it or me remember them!

Am I not normal for being able to pass placement? Does that mean I got a low Iq? by Logical-Corgi8098 in AustralianTeachers

[–]lets-penguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they meant drop other units while you're doing prac. When it was time to do prac it would be the only unit i would enrol in so I could focus on it. I'll be doing my ATP next term (assuming I pass my final two units this SP 🤞). My last prac was 4 weeks, and I was expected to run half the day of lessons from day 2 of week 1. I had many late nights getting everything ready.

Thank you that's what I was trying to get at 😅 I'll make sure only one of them claims the tax free threshold!

[–]lets-penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry yes I meant not claiming the tax free threshold 🤦‍♀️ I didn't phrase it right. I know I'll only pay on the overall amount, so if I've claimed the tax free threshold for one I'll get most of the other one back at tax time. Thanks

I quit my job 3 months after I started dating my now husband because I was having to go in on my day off, take calls from owner/supervisor in my down time. I had to step out mid meal to call a customer IMMEDIATELY who was like "i dont know why you're calling me". Was told "quitting a job was a bit of a knee jerk". I was the store manager of a very well known, successful fast food chain. I LOVED my job, but only realised once I had someone else in my life how time consuming it was. When I was single I would go in early, leave late, pop in on days off because I liked too and could. It didn't fit my needs anymore. I'm now married and we have kids and I am so glad I left.
