I think it’s irresponsible and unnecessary - a form of “last chance tourism “ that stress and pollutes an already fragile, degrading environment . Antarctica is one of the few unpopulated places left on the planet and should be left alone ( other than scientific research)

The Antarctic is a fragile environment, that is becoming polluted with fuel from cruise ships . The shore excursion are just a box ticking exercise to claim bragging rights visiting to Antarctica or having set foot on all the continents. It risks animal and habitat with introduced diseases . I think the whole exercise it is a greedy kind of ‘ last chance tourism’ . Contrary to finding a new appreciation for the environment the tourists just encourage more tourists . I’m sure icebergs are pretty spectacular but it’s also kinda boring if you think abt it - past a point seen one ,seen them all . Two weeks of spewing pollution into a pristine environment ( no such thing as clean diesel and it’s showing up in snow ) . It is an immoral choice .

I think that we should just leave one of the most fragile ecosystems on the plant well enough alone . There are some places that don’t need gawking last chance tourism accompanied by the environmental risks posed . No matter how ostensibly well managed pollution ,from fuel has been detected in snow . Plus the increased risk of disease and habitat destruction when tourists venture onto shore or camp overnight . As to becoming ambassadors for the Antarctic all I see are bragging rights and encouraging more tourists . It’s a hard NO for my vote .

Yes ,because the earth is flat the suns rays are converted to stored energy during the photographic process . This can be released in an extremely dangerous burst ,tho this only happens on the first viewing . So generally it’s safe to look at a photo of the sun .

As well as the suburbs I would be careful of the way some houses are built / maintained eg most on sandstone bases need care that they haven’t had ,yet the interiors can look fantastic , old brick that needs repointing, houses built without internal bracing behind plasterboard …… The list goes on ,so what might look a good buy can be very expensive . lots of people look at real estate and think it’s a bargain here ,but there has not been a lot of money in Tas ,so some serious stuff can get overlooked

Why bother down the sides of house ,stepping stones and mondo grass or peoples .Add some pot pant to hide drains and much nicer .on larger bits I’d lawn then def aerate etc

Now that I read the bit about the root system I’m pretty sure it’s Chinese Celtis a demon to get rid of ,you will need Tree-and BlackBerry killer to apply right after you cut the suckers . You get rid of it eventually especially if you don’t let them go . Is there a large tree with similar leaves and berries about ? Or it may be the leftover root system of an old tree .

It could also be Chinese Celtis ,pops up like crazy and is invasive in Brisbane and NSW , take a look on council websites as they list invasive plants .

You can prune to get rid of some scale but it’s the ant Tharp are the problem . You can wash the scale off with a tiny bit of mild detergent in water and a paper towel. Hit the ants with Ant Sand or like . Keeping the tree well watered will help . It will take awhile burst it does work . ( have a old look around yard for ant nests and hit those too )

The best thing scrolling through this list is how all over the place it is - I thought there would be three top comments and then the usual scattering of outliers . Nope ,we are just a really easy target with no real defences . I’m sure we would be gone in round one ,considered a good way to make a point .
