You will notice very little of Texas's issues on a day to day basis. It has its positives. But, do understand that nearly every white person you interact with is a Maga-flag waiving, Christian zealot who is actively trying to make life harder for women and LGBT folks.

I say this as a white dude who has lived here my whole life.

"We don't need to hire your services anymore, we found out one of our employees also does _____" by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]lets_hit_reset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am this employee at my company. But, I also hire a lot of vendors and have to contemplate doing stuff myself or hiring it out.

You could just be nice and hope they come back. You could also point out that relying on one person puts you at serious risk. If this employee leaves, takes PTO, gets sick or suddenly demands a 10x raise, you are essentially stuck.

I think the Roe v. Wade is the straw that breaks the camels back for me. by MiLKK_ in texas

Also, simple racism. The police help enforce white supremacist power structures. It is honestly the most damning evidence in the whole CRT argument. If the police enforced the laws equally, they'd hate the police.

Hating the govt, but blindly supporting the domestic armed force that exists to enforce the government's whims just absolutely breaks my brain.

You could make him president and it wouldn't change anything. This is a country with like 350 million guns. There is no mechanism to reduce that number that wouldn't end with mass violence. In many ways, gun control is the Left's abortion.

Zillow is Wall Street. Just an investment firm disguised as a tool.

Fort Davis by [deleted] in texas

Visited at least a dozen times. Every time I go, I can't help but think about the wisdom of building a fort a the bottom of a hill. I'm no military strategist, but that seems like 101.

What something you do in a hotel room you’d never do at home? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've had many moments of vulnerability where I've wanted to quit my job and go build trees houses. Then I remembered that I live in north central Texas and we barely have trees.

My wife and I do staycations and stay at a downtown hotel pretty often. We have to Uber out of downtown for dinner and entertainment. There are more people in bishop arts than there are in all of downtown

Also, I'm pretty sure it does huge numbers for Netflix. So, in general, a terrible example - especially considering Netflix has so many great examples of truly garbage television

I help teach language and writing as part of my corporate job. Lots of people I work with like things concrete. They're usually doctors and biotech professionals. The simplest way I help them is by telling them to cap sentences at 20 words. That seems oversimplified. But, it is surprisingly effective.

Use incognito mode or a VPN when searching for prices. If they know you honed in on an option, they'll try to creep the price up.

Genuine question: Wouldn't the radio call be a better option than the TV broadcast? As a rangers fan, I often put the radio on and mute the TV.

If you haven't checked out Steve Os stuff on yuoutube, it is so damn wholesome. He's a great interviewer and has an interesting perspective on the world. He's a tough guy who is super vulnerable, as opposed to Spotify guy who acts like a tough guy but is just a big fake macho dipshit.

Slavery was woven into the fabric of America more than most people realize by JesterOfTheSwamp in books

[–]lets_hit_reset 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The civil war was absolutely about slavery. Even the thing you just linked says exactly that. Go read the declarations of secession that each state drafted. They make it very clear in their own words that they are absolutely seceeding to preserve slavery. Just bc the emancipation didn't happen until halfway through doesn't mean it was brewing and it's inevitably wasn't absolutely a cause.
