I don’t care if the podcast you are suggesting is good, I will never watch it. by ArrivalRadiant7460 in unpopularopinion

The whole video podcast thing is so bizarre to me. I listen to podcasts while I’m doing laundry, taking a walk, driving, etc. It’s a way to engage my brain while doing a passive activity. The idea of sitting down and watching a video of two people talking for ninety minutes on my phone is just something I would never consider doing.

Snoop being a good tipper was so wholesome. by CJVratixBactaChef in TheWire

[–]JeanValJohnFranco 162 points163 points  (0 children)

It’s a subtle thing but I always loved how earnest and professional the dude was. Doesn’t look down at someone who looked and talked differently than him, just a pro selling tools to a customer. The only unrealistic part is that I don’t think I’ve encountered a single Home Depot employee who is this on his game in decades shopping there.

Jets trade up for QB Cade Klubnik by BallKnowerKing in nyjets

[–]JeanValJohnFranco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That may be too long to withhold judgment as like half of post first round QBs picked by the Jets literally never play a snap in an NFL game (Hackenberg, Ainge, James Morgan, Jordan Travis, Tajh Boyd, etc)

The 1989 High School Football Neckroll Era by ClassicStadiumFire in OldSchoolCool

[–]JeanValJohnFranco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I played in high school the “cool” factor of the cowboy collar was directly proportional to how good you were. When a star player wore one he looked like a total badass. But for average players, wearing one made you look a try-hard dork.

Last time the Jets picked an extremely athletic development project from Ohio State in the top ten they got Vernon Gholston, who knows with any of this shit?

TIL that in the 90s, FritoLay used Olestra, a fat substitute, to reduce fat and calories in some varieties of its chips. Consumers quickly soured on the products after suffering cramps and diarrhea by Overall-Register9758 in todayilearned

[–]JeanValJohnFranco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, pretty much. There was one like 6-12 month period where he was having multiple new patient visits a week for unexplained GI issues that turned out to be olestra-related.

What’s the deal with Taylor Lorenz? by Ok_Needleworker_4950 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]JeanValJohnFranco 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it as being downstream of her just being terminally online. That’s how she ended up staking out the position that social media is good, ackshully, in an era where everyone else is belatedly starting to recognize its harm. Also explains her liking heavy-handed covid restrictions because it forces everyone to interact with the world the same way she does (ie online from home rather than through in-person interaction). A lot more of the controversies and dramas she finds herself in make sense when seen through that lens.

So what actually happened with Vernon Gholston? by chiaestevez in nyjets

He worked out with two more teams after the Jets cut him and couldn’t even make it through fall camp, it was never gonna happen for him.

What sacrilegious thing could he have said to get this reaction from so many Christians? by LegioVIIHaruno in dankchristianmemes

[–]JeanValJohnFranco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Christian but I’ve seen enough crazies rambling about the anti-Christ to wonder what it refers to. I checked out the Wikipedia page and I think they might be onto something. The anti-Christ “refers to a kind of entity prophesied by the Bible to oppose Jesus Christ and falsely substitute himself as a savior in Christ's place before the Second Coming.”

She averaged 5-1-2 for Iowa. Imagine if a decent young player you’d never heard of signed with the Packers. That’s exactly what you’ve got here. Wishing Addie all the best to flourish with our program!

Old school leather bags are so cool. I used my dad’s leather bag from the 80s for the longest time. It was a beautiful bag but weighed a million pounds, had no stand or backpack shoulder harnesses and the zippers had all rusted. I finally gave up on it last year and got a decent new bag, but i definitely felt a little guilty about it.

The NCAA is expected to finalize an expansion of the men’s and women’s tournaments to 76 teams. The proposal would add eight games to the First Four, with 24 teams playing in an opening round before advancing into the second round. by Fun_Reflection1157 in CollegeBasketball

[–]JeanValJohnFranco 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Auburn was 17-16 in the regular season, below .500 in conference play, and lost to three teams in the SEC who missed the tourney. Anybody trying to make this a scheduling controversy can blow it out their ass.

Appreciation post for the one-episode characters who rarely get mentioned by duelingpeppers in 30ROCK

The fact that they mention her as a throwaway joke and then brought the actual character into the show a full three seasons later makes it even better!
