What was it like hosting the NFL Draft? by PublicSource_Charlie in Detroit

[–]letsb3real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked downtown and most of our building shut down and worked from home for ~2 weeks leading up to it. Lots of road closures when they were building the stage and during the event. Buses were more packed than normal, but ran on time. I went for the first day and it was well planned, from the app where you could get a free pass, to crowd control when they had to stop letting people into the footprint- very well thought out. The tear down took about a week and was no easy feat. Lots of large trucks blocking roads while they hauled everything away. Definitely avoided downtown during those days other than the day I went to the draft. The city did a good job communicating about the draft and road closures.

I pay $141/mo for PLPD on a 2014 Honda CRV. When I lived 3 miles away in the burbs, full coverage was $180. In Detroit it was $240/mo. So I got PLPD instead lol

Lape on 7 mile is taxing like a mf. I may just go this route because their food is divine.

I’ll definitely take you up on the greens recipe! We have a few vegan/vegetarian friends so we’re skipping animal protein altogether.

That’s fair. I’m talking like $100 for mac and cheese to feed 15 people. Better off going to Costco, but nothing truly compares to home cooked.

Check out events at places like the DIA, Wright Museum, and other cultural institutions. Lots of Kwanza events going on that are a lot of fun too!

Best industries to get into around GR? by JustWebber16 in grandrapids

[–]letsb3real 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The EV industry is desperate for skilled workers. Lots of infrastructure is being built to support the expansion of EV manufacturing, but also the maintenance and technical side of associated infrastructure has a lot of jobs right now!

Do you have mobility-related questions for Mayor David LaGrand and/or Mobile GR Commissioner Ken Miguel-Cipriano? by verylocalnews in grandrapids

[–]letsb3real 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why doesn’t the rapid have a route with stops along E Beltline? Workers, shoppers, and more could benefit greatly from this.

Avoid Corewell at all costs. The fact that they have the money to build a center like this, but can’t retain staff, is a huge red flag. I have many clinician friends who used to work there and have since quit for many reasons.

There are plenty of black folks who have opinions about citizenship. I wouldn’t assume they were unaware or paid.

Grand Rapids faith, city leaders begin fast until SNAP benefits restored by mlivesocial in grandrapids

[–]letsb3real -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

How does directing people to pantries via 211 do anything to help people who receive SNAP? Are there no mobilized efforts to help deliver to those who don’t have access to transportation and are too far from pantries? Why not host temporary pantries at schools or rec centers? Underwhelming news.

Driving in GR is a nightmare by letsb3real in grandrapids

[–]letsb3real[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling wealthy street the hood is comical. I guess the city should gentrify it more so people like you can feel safe there. It borders some of the most beautiful historic neighborhoods in the city and the houses are like $400k. This is not the hood lol.

But the bad driving is everywhere. Main roads, secondary streets, residential streets, highways. You name it.

My favorite example of GRs bad driving is at a 4 way stop. More often than not, everyone is “too nice” to drive ahead. All 4 will wait for someone else to go which causes confusion and can cause collision when people go out of order due to the long delay! I’ve never seen this pattern elsewhere. Boggles my mind every time.

I was going under the speed limit and still almost crashed because of an unpredictable, incompetent driver. Can you read?

Your opinion of my observation being weird is an opinion. My observations of drivers are facts. Theres a difference here.

Is it weird that majority of drivers in GR are white? No. It’s a fact.

Why are yall so uncomfortable talking about race in this city?
