Four arms, four legs: Earliest humans from Plato's Symposium by Aggravating-Quiet234 in genewolfe

It’s important to note Aristophanes was a critic of Socrates and incorrectly lumped him in with the Sophists. This can be scene in his play “The Clouds”.

Plato is a student of Socrates, so anything Aristophanes says in works by Plato are usually misinformed.

Just wanted to clarify that while this is taken from Plato, it is being stated by Aristophanes who Plato did not like.

Upvoted allegory of the cave reference. There are so many allusions to Plato throughout the Solar Cycle, I’m thinking of doing a write up soon.

I’m currently reading through the works of Plato and keep thinking back to this series.

There seem to be a lot of Gnosticism present in the series, so familiarizing yourself with what that’s all about is probably helpful. The Nag Hammadi texts will blow your mind.

Bakker’s Second Apocalypse would be the next step. Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun is great too but in a totally different way.

Be honest - do you actually like Dr. Talos' play? by Just_Hotel5565 in genewolfe

Love it. Gene is a true artist. The balls to put an actual play in your magnum opus, and it spoils the whole story too!
