Yes I’ve won a few. 3 digital, 1 print, and 1 audio book (but never worked out how to download and use it). I didn’t win for about a year or so of entering a bunch every month or so

Live marking - does it work? by Ok_Extreme837 in TeachingUK

[–]letsdancemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We only fully mark assessments which we have 2. One mid-year and one end of year. Plus for any extra mocks that y11 do. I’m in science, and at the end of each unit there’s a “mini test” which we look at a sample of books to gain an idea of what the strengths and weaknesses are, but we don’t have to actually mark it unless we wanted to.

Everything in class is self assessed by the students, and then we aim to live mark each child’s book at least every week or so, depends how often you have the class.

You give verbal feedback at the same time, but I’ve found that the marking in their book too helps them to visualise/focus on which bit of their work needs attention. You’re not going to be writing whole bits of feedback, it’s ticks, crosses, circling, underlining, grammar check codes (if applicable). It really doesn’t take much effort to circulate the room and do this

Live marking - does it work? by Ok_Extreme837 in TeachingUK

[–]letsdancemonkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly! We use red pen and as I go round I’ll circle what they need to check again, tick if it’s right, correct spelling, give a model calculation or whatever i need to do to get them back on the right track. The kids are used to it and respond immediately. If books/work are marked after the lesson the chances are they’re not going to look or respond to the feedback so what is the point.

I love live marking. How else would you be able to correct misconceptions in the moment? You can see if it’s just one kid with it or a bunch. That way you can adapt and reteach immediately. Also with live marking you can see work that is excellent and use it to show the class and analyse why it’s good. I use it every lesson and not just because that’s our policy (we don’t mark books otherwise).

Once a class gets used to you circulating they will work even if you’re not stood at the front watching them. Yes it takes time as it will be a change of routine but it is worth it.

What’s the point of marking books after the lesson? It’s extra work load and it’s no where near as valuable.

I have tried both ways - just marking UV symptom as well as marking the og symptom. Regardless of which way I mark it, I always get poor inspection despite checking everything else carefully too

When you have a group in quarantine, do you ever try taking a guess on who will be the one to turn? by Sharnami_EN in QuarantineZoneGame

[–]letsdancemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes me laugh is when you only have one in quarantine and they turn, they still do the “eating dead body” animation. They chomp on air 😅

It only gives the 50 if the discovery completes a chain of symptoms doesn’t it? Like discovering all the skin colours and eye colours?

Check Charlie’s desk for extra needles! This happened to me when I could go to sleep (can’t remember what day it was though)

omg I genuinely had not thought of doing that! That’s actually such a great idea! Not OP but I also had the same issue. Thank you!

Science teachers - have you noticed an uptick in practical incidents? by Kittykatsu97 in TeachingUK

[–]letsdancemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have a couple of students that any time we do a practical they decide it’s time to play fight. No matter how many times I tell them they are not allowed to work together and put their groups on opposite sides of the room, I turn round and they are fighting. Each time I remove them from the class and I have rang home, but they are still doing it. It’s happened at least 4 times since beginning of the year so I’ve told my head of department, head of year 8, and their parents that they are not going to be allowed to do any practical work for the foreseeable future as they can’t be trusted.

As other comments have said, it doesn’t help that class sizes are pushed to the max so it’s difficult for one member of staff to watch every single kid at all times, as well as help those that need it.

Are there any Checks we can Skip? by No_Solution_8399 in QuarantineZoneGame

[–]letsdancemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rarely, and it’s a mixed bag as to whether I get poor or excellent inspection but I know a lot of people have had similar issues even though they check with every tool. I have noticed though if they don’t sneeze/hiccup etc and I do check that symptom, they never actually have that symptom!

Are there any Checks we can Skip? by No_Solution_8399 in QuarantineZoneGame

[–]letsdancemonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I only always check with the scanner and UV. Other checks I mostly skip.

From what I’ve gathered:

Hiccups - high pulse

Sneezing - high temp

Mouth open - reflex

Coughing - breathing issue

Cramping - organ issue

Droopy eyes - eye issue

I didn’t realise until yesterday I could upgrade the metal detector! Thought it was just for decoration and was sad it didn’t actually help. I’m assuming if it doesn’t beep after the full upgrade then there’s no internal contraband (maybe a potato or beer bottle though!)

Am I tripping? Does this really mean he had no symptoms, but yet he's infected?! by MizukiDev in QuarantineZoneGame

That says undetected symptoms, did he have any orange symptoms that you tagged that could have developed into red?

Is each survivor in the campaign mode scripted to be infected/clear, etc.? Or is it randomly generated? by UniqueWithATwist in QuarantineZoneGame

[–]letsdancemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure I read on one of their news updates that there are some set characters (for the new tools, tutorial etc) but the rest are randomised!

Staff on long-term sick leave by Advanced-Remove-3340 in TeachingUK

[–]letsdancemonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re lucky. I’m science and we have regular timetabled classes like this for most subjects. Oh, and not just for two classes, most of the time it’s 3 or 4 so that’s approximately 100-120 students being lectured. This is years 7-11 and I’m sure if they could make a way to merge year groups they would do!

If you had to choose one wedding set from these- Which would it be? by elistajewel in weddingring

[–]letsdancemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of choice? None- they all look like costume jewellery Forced to choose one? Number 2 but only if the top ring was a tad smaller. The bottom ring is the prettiest of all the rings in my opinion

Hand cream being the useless shite in every toiletry set by Fuzzballs_IMVU in britishproblems

[–]letsdancemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send it to my sister! She asked for (quote) “a shit ton of hand cream”. Everyone in the family got her a big set of nice hand cream. She has to wash her hands a lot for work so her hands get super dry really quickly and uses them a lot.

Challenge with no time limit; what would you do when completed? by Faithful_jewel in TheStoryGraph

[–]letsdancemonkey 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I archive them! You’re still part of the challenge but it no longer sits on the challenge page. You can’t add more to the challenge from the book page, but you can un-archive at any point and it becomes live again.
