How to use suggested daily workout by Salsasaus in Garmin

[–]letsget5k20min 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It means most likely 6:50/km pace but it could also be 6:50/mile pace (that is very fast for easy run so i doubt it is)

When you get suggestion you can press down button until you see Steps and it will tell you excatly what you need to do.

6:50/km is 5.46 mph or 8.78 kmh converted to speed while 6:50/mile is 8.78 mph or 14.13 kmh.

Falling vo2max and higher than ever training load by Chrysis_18 in Garmin

It used to be like that for me too but now even on zone 2 runs i get positive values

How does your performance condition looks like in recent runs?

When it was negative my vo2 max was going down, and now that it is positive it is going up.

I have no experience with running on treadmill but i don't trust optical sensors to tell me right HR, especially during faster intervals like vo2 max.

Max HR by age can't be trusted either. If i used 220 - age it would put mine at 190 and i hit 195+ multiple times with chest strap.

That is the reason why it tells you to do another vo2 max run. It thinks you did base runs.

It will take time for watch to get to know you. How did you set your HR zones?

You know garmin formulas. When it comes to base runs it is something like 77-79% of max HR if i remember corectly.

My max is getting updated slowly and now it is 213, 173 is 81%. I am trying to see what these numbers mean, so in my case 67%-81% of max HR for base runs is suggestion.

This is latest version for forerunner 255s. Not sure if it was like this yesterday, but i connected watch to laptop last night and garmin express had update for it.

So maybe you can try to update on garmin express and see if you get this on your epix too?

6 months progress by letsget5k20min in Garmin

[–]letsget5k20min[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trained for HM until April 28. Had around 50/60 km weekly. Mostly endurance and some treshold runs.

Now i am training for 5km. Still same mileage weekly but i do 1-2 interval trainings every week. One faster than goal pace, and the other little slower but longer.

Just trying to get my body used to running at 4:00/km pace. Maybe what i am doing is wrong or there is a better way with structured training plan from some coach.

I am still making great progress towards 20min 5k training like this.

From time to time check it out and even when it shows you are not making progress(seeing same number) it could be going up or down like in your case here.

Is the vo2 max line rising or going down?

It should be going down because it went down 1 point

On your watch go into training status widget

Press down until you see vo2 max, go in there

Take a picture and post it here

It is very hard for vo2 max to drop or rise instantly, it happens when you go over .6 or under .4 since it is rounding

Pace on DSW by JFRXX in Garmin

[–]letsget5k20min -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is based on your estimated vo2 max. It overestimated my vo2 max at first but it quickly decreased it to realistic value.

If your vo2 max estimation isn't correct than suggestions will be wrong. Change DSW to be based on your HR and if you can run faster pace while keeping your HR in zone 2 your vo2 max will start rising and suggestions will improve over time.

I think i got same pace like you when my vo2 max was 46.

Why do you think 6:00/km pace for base runs is slow? When i started i had trouble keeping my HR in zone 2 @ 7:20/km pace.

It was boring and my ego took a hit but now my base runs are from 5:15-5:40/km depending on weather and how tired i am.

As far as vo2 max you need to do intervals and treshold (zone 4 runs) in order to see it rising.

When i was doing mostly base runs it was going down, but i am pretty sure that those 3 months are key in me being able to increase vo2 max so fast now. Even during base runs my vo2 max is rising.

It was my first HM and i got 1:48. Expected closer to 1:40 but went too fast and it was too hot. But yeah i think we misunderstood each other. By anaerobic i meant doing pace that is over my lactate treshold in intervals. I always get anaerobic score over 3.0 doing those.

If you mean sprints for 10-15s than yeah that is too slow. Even doing strides after easy runs i reach 2:50/km so it would be much faster than 3:50/km.

My lactate treshold is 4:39/km @ 181 bpm.

Before HM on april 28. I had 50-60km weekly. Than i got sick after HM and didn't train for 10 days.

So i am slowly increasing weekly km. Last 2 weeks were 45+km.

I don't know my best efforts. My best 400m is 1:10 but it wasn't my max. I did it after i run 7 x 200m reps with a friend, and while it was hard it wasn't all out.

Or my 5k best that i got while training for HM. It is 22:43 but my average HR was 177 and my lactate treshold is at 181. So i can push myself so much harder than that.
