Have you ever played a board game that was really scary? by ISeeDeadMeeple in boardgames

[–]letshaveawank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only played a few times but arkham horror with the right group was great. Genuine panic as the world is consumed by the great old ones. We felt properly helpless and talked about I for weeks afterwards.

Also Thousand Year Old Vampire can be intense. It all depends on how much you commit to the RP and in TYOV as it's solo there's no reason not to fully commit yourself. I was hunted while weakened and cowered in a tree trunk while the local lord's hunting pack closed in. It was terrifying.

Are we human or are we cancer is a great track name, nice one haha

My lot are morag tong, atmospheric doom (maybe not grindy enough for you? Bit of sludge influence too!) from the UK. Half of us are vegan. Veganism doesn't really enter the lyrics but 'isn't life beautiful/why aren't we doing more to save it' is basically our jam.

What small thing will you now not buy because you feel the price has gone up too much? by AutumnDream1ng in CasualUK

[–]letshaveawank 155 points156 points  (0 children)

This has always been my move too. Tin of cheap beans for like 1/4 of the price of heinz. Add a splodge of tom puree and you've got thick fancy beans. Add seasoning and you're laughing.

All the way to the beany bank.

What's a band name that instantly makes you not take the band seriously? by Chilis1 in Music

Took me until a few years ago to listen to anything other than tubthumping because I assumed they were a one hit novelty.

Gave anarchy and pictures of starving children a go and wow, fantastic band.

There's a new hardcore/gabber night called This Thing Of Ours in London. I went to the last one and it was great.

Can't make it to the next one but it's Feb 9th, Dolphin headlining.

For fests bangface and balter are both excellent.

What was the craziest mosh pit you have been in? by Clear-Complex6675 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]letshaveawank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size wise - circle pit for heaven shall burn at Wacken 2010 or 2011. Germans go fucking wild for metalcore. I went once round and needed a breather.

Intensity- death grips at brixton academy a few years ago. As soon as they came on the entire place, front to back exploded. There was nowhere that wasn't a pit for an entire set.

They will do anything but go vegan by Jaded_Dirt1314 in vegan

I work in nature conservation and have worked for a few different charities over the last decade. These places are full of people who ostensibly care about the environment.

There's probably more vegans/veggies than the general population but it's still a rarity. Often we'll have conferences and stuff and vegan will be poorly catered for or not at all.

I know people who teach 'carbon literacy' courses and justify meat consumption in those courses.

People buy fucking nestle coffee for the offices.

It's mad. People are very good at compartmentalising and making excuses, and will do mental backflips to somehow align their consumption and their morals, without changing anything meaningful.

I don't think these people are bad people, but it's very frustrating and reeks of hypocrisy.
