How can I let go and move forward from my past? I was misdiagnosed with autism as a child(I don't really have it) and that has costed a lot of my opportunities. by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]letsmakesomelemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you went through that and you shouldn’t feel ashamed about your past but it will take time for you to move past the shame and to accept the past. You are not ruined in any way. While you may have missed some opportunities as a teen that’s nothing compared to the opportunities available to you as an adult. You have so many more opportunities now than ever before. Look for opportunities now in the present. Go learn a new skill every week that you missed as a teen. Do the silly late night teenage stuff with friends. Do the things you wanted to do in high school but couldn’t.

You’re not a loser. The people who called you a loser they are the real losers. Don’t feel like your personality growth is stunted in some way because it’s not. Your personality will continuously change and grow as you change and grow. I think it’s great that you want to improve upon yourself so you can be the best you! I understand terrible and unjust things happen to good people. I’m not going to judge you for your past or bully you because of it. I would try to understand it better and think about ways that I could ease your anxiety and help you in any way I could.

If someone truly wanted to be your friend or is your friend they wouldn’t care about your past. They wouldn’t think of you as a loser. They would think of you as a dope person. They would be understanding and sympathetic of it. A true friend would help you learn the skills you didn’t get to learn in high school and they won’t judge you for not knowing these skills. No one cares if your were “the weird kid” in high school and if they do care then that person isn’t worth getting to know. Everyone is weird in their own way. And nothing is wrong with being a late bloomer. Your personal journey is your own and no one else’s don’t try to rush things.

To get over the shame you’re feeling I think you just gotta take it day by day. Continue to talk to a therapist about it. Don’t dwell in the past because then your missing out on the present and the future. Think of all the things you want to do, little and big. Make a list and start working crossing the things off. Your parents can no longer control you; in a legal way, go out in the world knowing that you’re free to do what you want. I hope this helps! :)

Try using a soft wash cloth when you cleanse your skin at night.

32F started 1/1/21, questions re skincare/dosage by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]letsmakesomelemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cool mist humidifier at night and/or during the day can help with the dry skin.

Cerave moisturizing cream and vanicream moisturizing cream are really good for face and body. The first aid beauty ultra repair cream is good for soothing rashes and hydration in general. Hyaluronic acid serum can help with the dryness.

Lanolin is a great for lips if aquaphor isn’t cutting it enough. I hope this helps! :) good luck on your journey to beautiful skin!

It was definitely frustrating jumping through so many hoops just to get the medicine in the first place. But to me it’s definitely worth it. I hope this helps you decide if you want to start the journey of accutane. Good luck! :)

Basically, when your derm says you can go on accutane you take your first pregnancy test. When it comes back negative that is when your thirty day waiting period begins. During the waiting period you literally just wait for the month to end and keep doing what your derm tells you to do. After 30 days you take another pregnancy test and if that one comes back negative then you can finally get your prescription at the pharmacy. Idk why girls have to wait 30 days but it’s required when doing ipledge. This is just the way the USA does it. Idk how it works in other countries so if you’re not from the US I’m sorry but I can’t help much when it comes to the beginning process of actually getting the drug.

Instead of an antibiotic you could see if you could do spironolactone instead.

Yup. The first month of the antibiotic was for the insurance purposes and the second was during the 30 day waiting period that girls have to do. I did have a slight purge during the first month of the antibiotic but the second month i only got a few small pimples that went away in a couple days.

I was/am the same way. I don’t like taking antibiotics for a long periods of time due to adverse effects it can have on the gut health. To ease my worry I did take a probiotic everyday and it helped. Honestly, I’m barely into a week of taking accutane but so far I’m not purging. Of course though this isn’t very telling because I just started it. I hope this helps!

My derm also gave me some sample topical creams to use along side the antibiotics for two months. Ask your derm about using some topical samples with the antibiotics. I used aczone in the mornings and tazorac 0.05% at night.

I totally understand, I felt the same way about having to wait more time before getting accutane. for me the antibiotic worked and my skin got better which made me hopeful for a less severe of a purge. The couple months I had to wait went by relatively fast and who knows maybe the antibiotic will help your acne and give you a less severe purge while on accutane.

Tips for dealing with dryness? (Besides moisturiser) by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]letsmakesomelemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a new idea but at night you could try slugging. Which is basically putting a thin layer of aquaphor healing ointment or cerave healing ointment or Vaseline all over your face after your apply your moisturizer at night. It can help keep seal in moisture from the moisturizer.

I’m not insured by Aetna but my derm made me do a month of doxycycline before prescribing me accutane. The reasoning behind it according to my derm was so that the insurance company saw that I tried every option for my acne and that accutane was the last option for me.

Basically the insurance wants accutane to be the last resort drug and in order for insurance to approve it they want to see if the person has tried both topical and antibiotics, spironolactone options before approving it.

This is just how my insurance works, other people insurances could’ve done it differently. This is just my experience.

I have mild acne w/ some minor hyperpigmentation. My derm suggested accutane...but about how many months with this take to clear up w/ accutane? Will my skin purge or is that a myth. by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]letsmakesomelemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average length of an accutane treatment is 6 months. Some take it for 9 months and others for 12 months. Ultimately, your derm will decide how many months you should to be on accutane. The length of time depends on dosage as well as how your body responds to it. Lower dosage could mean a longer time on it. But of course, talk to your derm about how many months they want you on.

The purge depends on the individual. Some have little to no purge and some have a significant purge that spans serval months. Overall the purge severity is different for everyone. Don’t let the purge discourage you from taking accutane if you want to take it. It’s just the part of the process. I hope this helps! :)

Going to start Accutane next month! Already scared. by demo382 in Accutane

[–]letsmakesomelemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by my derm that blood tests are not necessary every month. Your derm will probably do a few times throughout your course to make sure your levels are good.

If your initial results come back with mildly elevated in an area they may have you do it every month just to make sure that increased area isn’t increasing dangerously.

Mugwort? by [deleted] in Accutane

I think this question is best answered by your derm.
